Baby Left in Plastic Bag to Die Gets a Miraculous Rescue

OMG 160

newborn feetA woman was out walking her dogs a few nights ago in Houston when one of the dogs started sniffing at a plastic bag that was lying in the street. When the woman got a little closer to what her dog was investigating, she realized that in that plastic bag was a tiny newborn baby -- a tiny newborn baby who must have been born just a short time ago. A tiny newborn baby who was ... okay.

The sweet baby girl was immediately transported to Texas Children's Hospital, where she was declared in "good condition". Jenn Jacome, a spokesperson for the hospital, told the New York Daily News that the baby's vital signs were stable and within regular limits. She also said that the little one was conscious, and that her chance of recovery was between good and excellent. According to Sergeant Gordon Trott of the Harris County Sheriff's Office: "The child could not have been out there very long," as she had a "normal body temperature." Trott also added: "If it had not been for the resident that came out to walk her dogs, that child may have laid there all night, possibly would've died."

Instead of focusing on how unbelievably insane it is that someone did this to a newborn baby, let's try to focus on the good: This little angel is meant to be if anybody ever was. If this woman hadn't been out at the very moment she was out -- and with her dogs, who noticed the bag -- the baby may not have made it through the night. A perfect confluence of events. Fate, if you believe in that sort of thing.

I'm disgusted beyond words at the fact that a tiny infant was left to die all by itself, but for my sanity's sake, I'm choosing to concentrate on the good of this horrific story: That this little one is a fighter, and she's exactly where she's meant to be, despite incredibly rough odds.

What do you think of this?

Omg... That poor little baby. I can't even imagine what kind of person would do that to a newborn. I'm so glad she's ok. :(

I am so glad this baby was found but to everyone saying this person was evil and horrible to abandon a child we don't know the whole story and we shouldn't case the first stone. What if the mother is a 14 year old who was raped by her dad or uncle? Too scared to go to the police? Being abused herself. Maybe this person knew the woman walking her dogs would be by soon. Humans don't think about it often but we all have schedules and routines. Maybe she took her dogs out the same time every night. Maybe the mother know the baby would be found quickly.

omg poor poor baby! wtf is wrong with ppl these days? just put an innocent lil baby in a bag and leave her on the fucking street to die?! all the mother had to do was drop her off at a safe haven, the fucking FIRE DEPARTMENT WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE BABY NO QUESTIONS ASKED! anyway that babies name should be Miracle cuz thats exactly what she is. God bless lil one.

I just watched an episode of Law and Order where the exact same thing happened! Wonder if they will find and prosecute the "mother".

Oh my god. So glad this has a happy ending. Unreal. I still cannot believe with all the options women/girls still do this. Gave me goosebumps.

Lilac-I see that side of things but this baby could of been wrapped up in a blanket and put in a doorstep. She was in a plastic bag a lot of thought went into that. So yes the 'mother' needs prosecution IF ever found.

Unreal. Tossed out in the middle of winter. The plastic bag says so much. I hope the baby never learns of this, no matter the happy ending. But happy ending its, and is all that matters. To life, safety and the loving comforts in the bosom of a real family!

Agreed with others here: hard to stomach that the baby couldn't be surrendered to the FD, safe haven locations.

All I can think of is how sad and scared that baby must have been. Imagine being safe and warm your whole life, then you have to be born (ouch!), and then your safe warm place is replaced with a cold plastic bag on concrete (I'm assuming the concrete part). Such a horrible betrayal.
