Zombie Apocalypse Becomes Point of Debate … With the Canadian Government?!? (VIDEO)

LOL 6

Zombies are shambling their way through pop culture right now -- what with Rick and the gang on The Walking Dead, zombie races that will really get you moving to the finish line, hackers pulling a prank on daytime TV watchers, and countless other zombie-happenings.

With all of this zombie talk, the zombie apocalypse has to be near, right? This week in Canadian Parliament, some humorous politicians (not an oxymoron, apparently) had some fun bringing up concern for Canadians’ safety in the event of a zombie apocalypse.

At the House of Commons meeting on Wednesday, Winnipeg Parliament member Pat Martin asked Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird what the government was doing to prepare for an invasion of walkers. And not just of Canada! Martin says, "I don't need to tell you, Mr. Speaker, that zombies don't recognize borders. Zombie invasion in the United States could easily turn into a continent-wide pandemic if it's not contained."

Martin continues, "On behalf of concerned Canadians everywhere, I want to ask the minister of foreign affairs, is he working with his American counterparts to develop an international zombie strategy so that a zombie invasion does not turn into a zombie apocalypse?"

Other members of the house can be heard laughing, and when he’s finished, some stand and applaud. Because that was funny.

John Baird, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, plays along by responding, “Mr. Speaker, I want to assure this member and all Canadians that I am dead-i-cated to ensuring that this never happens. I want to say categorically to this member and through him to all Canadians that under the leadership of this prime minister, Canada will never become a safe haven for zombies. Ever!"

Watch it here:

Freaking hi-lar-i-ous. The video has gone viral since it was posted on YouTube Wednesday, with almost 190,000 views so far. I just have one thing to say to our neighbors to the north -- well done, Canada, well done.

Isn’t it nice to see politicians having some fun instead of bickering for once?

I love this. A little background: the debate happened as a joking response to a Toronto area television network being hacked and a faux emergency broadcast system message was aired. We Canadians are a strange bunch, and definitely don't take ourselves too seriously!

Thanks jessyroos for the context! We don't want people thinking we're 100% crazy! Ahhh I love my Country, we can definitely take a joke!
