49ers' Delanie Walker Suffers Truly Tragic Loss When Family Is Killed After the Super Bowl

Heartbreaking 8

Delanie Walker, Alice and Bryan YoungWhile the 49ers loss to the Ravens in Sunday's Super Bowl hit the team hard, that doesn't even begin to compare to the personal loss of the team's tight end, Delanie Walker. According to reports, after his aunt and uncle, Alice and Bryan Young, left the big game, they were killed in a fiery car crash.

Young tweeted the news this afternoon along with a picture of him with them: "Alice and bryan young my aunt and uncle was killed on Monday at 5 am after the super bowl by a drunk driver … we lost some good people they will be missed i love y'all" Heartbreaking.

According to Sports Illustrated, a 26-year-old driver veered off the highway and into their vehicle, which was stopped on the shoulder of the interstate, around 5:30 a.m. Monday. The cars caught on fire, and it wasn't until today that their bodies were identified by the coroner.  The driver, who escaped with minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and reckless operation of a vehicle.

You can just imagine how excited they were to see their nephew there playing in a Super Bowl game. I imagine them discussing the game on the way home, disappointed by the team's loss but so proud of him. Then just like that, their lives were over because someone chose to drink and drive

There are so many circumstances and tragedies in life that can't be prevented. Things like disease and true accidents. But drunk driving is not just an accident; it can be prevented, and it's one of the most irresponsible, reprehensible things a person can do.

Fortunately, their son, DeAndre Williams, wasn't with them. A "standout high school football player" himself you would have thought he would have done anything to be at that game. But Yahoo reports that while he was invited, he decided to stay home and focus on schoolwork and track practice instead. Thank God he did. Many thoughts and prayers to this family.

Have you known anyone killed by a drunk driver?

What an awful tragedy! I am so sorry for these two innocent victims and everyone who loves them.

I don't understand that motherf*@kin idiot who thought it was a bright idea to drink and drive. A child is an orphan now. Two lives cut short. Bottom line... Just get someone to drive you home. There should be no tolerance for drunk drivers. Throw the book at this asshat.

I loath drunk drivers. When I was a kid my friends older brother was killed by a drunk driver the night before he was to leave for basic training. Quite frankly, the town was never the same.

These selfish people are sad excuses for humans. They need to be thrown in jail forever. Maybe then they'll be able to begin to comprehend the pain they put the victims loved ones through.

My firs husband was killed by a drunk driver on Fathers Day in 1996. OUr two daughters were with him. Our oldest is fine and at the time was 5 (she is now 21). Our youngest was 19 months at the time (now she is 18) and suffers from a traumatic brain injury and is partially paralyzed. It is a dumbe irresponsiboe decision to drink and drive. So many other choices out there on how to get home. Now this young woman has effected not only this innocent family but also her own. Stuid careless decision
