Sandy Hook Dad Heckled By Gun Lovers & They Should Be Ashamed

Rant 34

A father who lost his 6-year-old son in the horrific Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was actually heckled by gun advocates. Heckled! How on earth do you dredge up enough yuck from your soul to be able to heckle a guy who lost his child in the most horrific manner possible? Well, some gun lovers managed. Because they love their guns more than their humanity. When Neil Heslin, who lost his son Jesse in the Newtown killings, testified before a local hearing on gun control, he asked a simple, reasonable question: WHY does anyone need an assault rifle? You'd think gun lovers would have a good answer for this. You'd think they would have researched, prepared, passionately and intelligently reasoned for why assault weapons are a necessary thing for your average person. But instead they heckled.

So what did they heckle? When Neil asked why people need assault weapons, the brilliant (sarcasm) gun enthusiasts yelled, "Second Amendment! Second Amendment!" drowning out the devastated dad.

Neil stayed classy and replied: "We're all entitled to our own opinions and I respect their opinions and their thoughts. But I wish they'd respect mine and give it a little bit of thought."

I don't expect Second Amendment buffs to be able to think rationally or critically about this matter, but here's the truth. Amendments get altered, changed, even repealed. Just because it's an amendment doesn't make it sacred. Let's see ... ever hear of the 16th Amendment? That allows the government to collect income tax. But guess what? There are seven states that don't collect income tax! Shocker.

Ever hear of the 18th Amendment? That abolishes the sale of alcohol. But lo! That unpopular Amendment was repealed entirely by something called the 21st Amendment.

There's the Eighth Amendment, which prohibits "cruel and unusual punishment." Yet I'm willing to bet a lot of these Second Amendment lovers are just fine with strapping someone down and administering a lethal injection into their veins. The 15th Amendment established suffrage for men of different races. But conveniently left out women. That didn't happen for another 50 years.

Additionally, other Amendments, such as the First Amendment, which protects freedom of speech, isn't a sweeping, anything-goes, black-and-white rule. You can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded place when there's no fire just because you have freedom of speech. Try yelling "Bomb!" on a plane and then standing behind the First Amendment. It won't get you very far.

So an Amendment is not sacred, my friends. The right to bear arms doesn't necessarily mean the right to bear an AK-47 any more than it means you can stock a nuclear weapon or a cannon. Deal with it.

What do you think about the Second Amendment? Do you think the crowd should have heckled?

Not gonna say a thing right now, because I want to cuss you out and tell you to deal with it.

I don't think they should have heckled. But I also don't think you should say something so heartless yourself like, "Yet I'm willing to bet a lot of these Second Amendment lovers are just fine with strapping someone down and administering a lethal injection into their veins."  You just lost all your credibility. Also...an assult rifle was not used in the Sandy Hook shooting. He had them in his car but did not use them.

You're wasting your breath, honey. No matter how many children die, no matter how many facts you give these people, they WILL. NOT. LISTEN. They're too busy sticking AK47's up their asses and/or c*nts while deep throating LaPierre. No amount of facts or human compassion can get through the layers of tin foil they've wrapped around their stupid, self serving heads.

I'm glad Neil stayed classy. You sure didn't.

Kiri had credibility to lose?

According to multiple news reports, Heslin asked "if anyone could provide a reason for a civilian to own an assault-style weapon" and the citizens in the room responded to his query with "the second amendment".

There is a difference in these Amendments your quoting. These Amendment arent trying to repeal the fundamental ones which are quoted to not be infringed or a basic human right. Alcohol has no useful qualities besides cleaning wounds and inebriating people. A gun is useful for protection (whether it be from an attacking animal or an attacking human), and it is useful for hunting (which is for the benefit of wild animals as well as humans).

Secondly, maybe you didnt quote these "hecklers" right because to me, claiming that you have the right to bear arms isnt heckling, its stating facts. Sorry if you disagree, but it is TRUE. Whether anyone chooses to acknowledge it or not.

"Because they love their guns more than their humanity". Pretty much sums it up.

The second ammendment is a right to bear arms, not a right to amass an arsenal. There is no allowance for assault weapons or machine guns. There is no reason anyone gun owner needs anything more than one pistol for protection or a rifle for hunting.

Heckling anyone who "has the floor" is rude, immature and disrespectful. I'm betting that when he said "why does anyone need assault weapons",he was using his question as a means to prove his point that he doesn't understand the need for them and didn't want or expect anyone to yell out an answer, which common courtesy and public speaking etiquette says is an obvious 'no-no'... they SHOULD have waited until he was done. Then yes, by all means, use your right and speak your opinion.Just  please remember that it ISan opinion, everyone has one and we will get NO where in ANY divisive issue in this country if/when either side chooses to be disrespectful and completely close minded to compromise.

Those hecklers should be ashamed interrupting the grieving father. Give him his chance to speak while he is on the floor. This goes to show the lack of civility, and frankly, makes gun owners look bad. If they don't tone it down, they'll be locking down more democrats in office. People get to rowdy and heated.
