The first official portrait of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge has been unveiled, and two things immediately came to mind when I viewed it: One, I want a copy for myself. And two, is this supposed to be one of those missing person pictures that shows what the person would look like in 20 years? Cathy looks old in this pic!
Just so you don't think I'm the only jerkface who thinks this, I need to tell you: I'm not. The Huffington Post mentioned that Kate "might want to untag" herself in this painting, and Robin Simon, editor of the British Art Journal, told the Daily Mail: "Fortunately, the Duchess of Cambridge looks nothing like this in real life. I'm really sad to say this is a rotten portrait." However, Kate and Prince William are reportedly thrilled with this awkward depiction.
According to the Telegraph, during a 10-minute private viewing on Friday morning, the Duchess liked what she saw saying, "It's just amazing, I thought it was brilliant." And Wills was in agreement, stating, "It's beautiful, it's absolutely beautiful."
Are they just being polite? Do they need to clean the proteins off of their contact lenses? Or do they really like this strange painting?
We, the public, will never know. (Though I'm betting they're just being nice.) But one thing's for damn sure -- Kate definitely is much more beautiful in real-life. Or, in, you know, the photos we see of her.
What do you think of Kate's portrait?

oh wow that is not the least bit flattering
I'm really impressed. This is true art to portrait someone 20 years older than it actually is.

I think the painting itself is fine - I just think the artist chose a lousy picture to base it off of. The painting doesn't seem like it would fit in with the centuries of paintings of royals at the palace. I think it's strange that it's a close-up.
That's awful! She looks puffy and old. Poor dear.
My only complaint is that all of the photographs we see of her always show her with this amazing warm smile. I wish they had captured that in this potrait.
