123 Victims of Child Exploitation Rescued & Hundreds of Alleged Predators Arrested

This Just In 7

handcuffsSo this is terrifying: Over 200 people have been arrested in a child exploitation ring that included 123 child victims. The arrests were part of a five-week international child pornography investigation; 110 of the victims were found and rescued in the U.S. The other victims were found in six other countries.

As awful as it is to know that this operation was so large and widespread -- it's such a relief to know they've all been caught! And thank goodness those children have been rescued. Child pornography is one the most difficult crimes for law enforcement to grapple with. This is a major breakthrough in the battle against child exploitation.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton, the agency's role in the sting operation was to find and rescue victims, and to arrest people involved in abuse and transmitting child pornography. The arrests included two adults in Los Angeles for molesting a girl (who had appeared in online photos) when she was 13 years old.

Just to give you an idea of the scale of this problem, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children says through September 2011, it has collected information on more than 3,800 child victims of online sexual exploitation through its Child Victim Identification Program (CVIP). And it has seized pornography collections from more than 29,000 investigations around the country through the Child Recognition and Identification System (CRIS).

So these arrests definitely make a dent in this sick realm of criminal behavior. But it looks like there's still much more work to be done. And, of course, we can help. If you see something suspicious or have information, contact CVIP's cyber tipline.

Do you think we'll ever be able to significantly curtail child pornography and exploitation?

No, not until we impose stronger penalties and actually carry them out.  It makes me sick that the punishment for shop lifting is often the same as it is for crimes against children.  Until we stop babying the criminals and start actually punishing them nothing is going to help. All we can do is try to find the victims and rescue them. Why is the penalty for killing a bald eagle more severe than for sexually abusing a child.  Someone explain that to me.

They need to start taking bastards like this out into the street and put a bullet between their eyes. No 2nd chances, just automatic death sentence. Then see how fast the crime rate drops. Our legal system needs to stop worrying about the 'rights' of monsters like these. They gave up their rights when they decided to hurt a child. They can't be fixed, and they don't need to be put in prison for a ridiculously short sentence and pampered the whole damn time. That's why so many are doing this. They know they won't be severely punished as they should be. JUST KILL THEM and save countless other children from becoming victims, because THEY are the ones our laws need to worry about. THEY are what matters.

I agree word for word with the posts above.  These people literally take the lives away from their victims... so it should be a capital offense...possession of child pornogarphy should also be very harshly dealt with.

Why is everyone taking one part of this topic and making it explode? She used the 'gay' community as an example. And all of you relating pedophilia with homosexuality need to be checked. What the hell is wrong with you.
