Military Dad Jumps Off Parade Float to Surprise Family He Hasn't Seen in 7 Months (VIDEO)

Awww! 1

military reunion rose bowlHere's a nice story to start off your 2013 right: For one military family, they got the best New Year's gift ever during the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.

During this year's parade, Miriam Pazz had hoped that her husband could be with her and their 4-year-old son in the stands (he is deployed in Afghanistan). But her husband was one step ahead of her: Army Sgt. First Class Eric Pazz was actually hidden on one of the parade floats!

To set it up the scene, Miriam was told she won a contest to attend the parade. She had no idea that her husband would show up and surprise her there.

"My husband just entered his name, I guess. I just got a call letting me know that we won," she said right before the reunion.

And what the spectators did while watching the emotional reunion is truly heartwarming. Check it out!

Miriam and her 4-year-old son Eric Pazz II had actually traveled all the way from their home at a U.S. military base in Germany to Pasadena after her husband called to tell her she had won the contest. She only thought she was going to attend the parade and had no idea what else he had in store for her.

Then, as you can see, those in attendance rose to a standing ovation when Eric, riding on the Natural Balance Pet Foods float (they helped set up the reunion) along with other service members, jumped off the float to meet his family. Then they got on the float with him to finish off the parade. This all happened three months before his discharge date.

Before the parade, Eric hadn't seen his family in seven months. "It was a really great experience," said Eric. "First thing I thought was, 'I hope she’s not going to slap me for lying to her.' After that, seeing our son’s face, how he reacted, I was really caught up into the moment."

Aww, what a memorable, awesome moment at the Rose Parade. Cheers to this amazing family and our prayers are with Eric for a safe return home in three months!

Doesn't every single one of these military reunion videos make you want to sob uncontrollably?

Yes, these are all wonderful, but my favorite was when my brother returned from his 2nd tour in Iraq knowing his deployments were over.
