Some stories make me want to scoop up all children and make sure they are supervised by reliable adults at all times, and this is one of them. A Texas Bible school instructor has been charged by the FBI with distributing child pornography to an undercover officer.
Jacob Robert Holguin, 40, a butcher and middle-school Bible study instructor, was charged after a year-long operation, in which he allegedly told the undercover officer, who was posing as a 35-year-old mother of three in a chat room, "i really like... rape. ... i like to see them ... saying no, it hurts, stop." According to reports, Holguin used the online handle "friend of grimm" and in several cringe-worthy online conversations asked the officer to produce child pornography (using "her" own children????). "Frequently, the conversations revolved around his sexual interest in children," court documents said, including talk of "sexual torture of children."
And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
A judge denied Holguin bail because he lives within a mile of a middle school, and I would have too, hearing some of the details of the charges, including that he allegedly "trolled the Internet for juveniles 'to rape' and fondled a 15-year-old girl and took cell phone pictures of her private areas."
Finally in July, Holguin allegedly sent images of child pornography to the undercover officer. Court documents say he had a "library of child porn" saved on computers and that he sought out other adults and asked them for porn.
Thankfully, there's no evidence that he crossed any lines and abused any of the children he instructed at the Bible school. But the very thought of a man like that TEACHING CHILDREN about JESUS is terrifying. How close was he to taking the leap from pictures of children to actually following through with his alleged desires to "rape" a child. Is it better or worse that it's Bible school instead of middle school? I don't even know.
But I'm grateful the FBI has this man in custody, and if he's convicted, I hope he spends the rest of his life in prison. Far, far away from kids.
Do you worry about whether your kids' teachers are secretly child pornographers?

And this is why my son will not grow up in church. I walked away from religion because it's a bunch of pedophiles and bigots at the pulpits.
"And if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck." -Mark 9:42
Jesus said this according to the bible he was teaching his students. He the the worst kind of hypocrite I can think of if the charges against him are true.
However, after a ton of thinking on the subject, I think the reason behind all these lions among the lambs in church is because religion, boyscouts, etc. are major institutions that place a multitude of young children in the care of adults that are supposed to be trustworthy, and the pedophiles know that. So that's exactly where they're going to go.
I have no words. Maybe it's PMS but this article brought me to tears. There just doesn't seem to be a safe place left anymore.
The one and only time that I find myself being literally 'judgemental' (as in the biblical "you're going to hell")is with pedophiles. This fucker and those like him deserve to burn for all eternity;after dying a slow painful death.
Absolutely sickening. Thankful he was caught.
Sickening, yes. But life and its places (chruch, school, scouts, etc) are no less safe now than they were 20 or 30 or more years ago. Just because, in this age of instant round the world news we hear about these cases more does not actually mean there are more of them there used to be. Please do not raise your children in an atmosphere of fear.....
Church never was safe . . .look at all the middle-aged men going after the elderly Catholic priests who raped them. Love the teachings of Jesus, hate organized (and not so organized) religion and some of the people who hide behind the pulpit or name "church goer" so they can do their dirty work. Have met some really spiritual people who never go to church, they grew beyond it and don't need it. Church is for sinners. If you decide to go, be careful of some of the people there, especially the ones who are the most "devout."
I do worry about it though. It's hard to know who to trust with your kids. I deal with way too much of this type of stuff due to my job, so I'm ultra paranoid. :(
