71st Anniversary of Pearl Harbor: A Look Back in Quotes & Photos

by Jeanne Sager on December 7, 2012 at 7:00 AM

Pearl HarborSeventy-one years have passed since the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Today is, as then President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, the day that will live in infamy. And it does, even 71 years on.

Don't believe it? Just look at these quotes about Pearl Harbor, many uttered seven decades ago but still repeated today, others more recent but evidence that the peaceful Sunday morning shattered by an act of war still resonates, still haunts our American spirit. Paired with photos of the attack, it's hard not to be taken back to the horror of that day.

Will you be taking a few moments to remember the lives lost at Pearl Harbor today?

Pearl Harbor Attack

"Yesterday, December 7, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." -- President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Dec. 8, 1941, asking Congress to declare war on Japan

veterans dayThey all deserved a medal. I can't imagine going through all of that, not knowing if you are coming home to your family, all for the well being of their country. Brave doesn't begin to describe our soldiers.
