The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is probably the most famous Thanksgiving Day event in the country. And the weather was gorgeous yesterday, so it should have been a time of pure fun. Unfortunately, however, tragedy did strike. And for those families and children who happened to be along the parade route when it did -- it must have been a traumatizing sight. A man dressed as a clown who was enteraining the crowds collapsed and died right there on the parade route in front of everyone. Horrible!
The man, 67-year-old Robert Blasetti, was dressed in his red, white and blue clown gear when he suddenly collapsed as he was walking in the parade. His wife, also a clown, was right beside him. He was taken to the hospital where he died of cardiac arrest.
Don't click into the original story link if you're super-sensitive, because there are pictures of the clown as he collapsed and was taken away by the ambulance. The pictures also show his distraught wife, who is in her clown outfit and blue wig. I can't imagine what this man's wife, not to mention the people -- and especially the children -- who were right there to witness this must have been feeling. Certainly it would put a damper on the festivities.
It's terribly ironic that this poor man dressed up to entertain people and now he's gone from this world. At the very least, he seems to have died doing what he loved doing. While that is small consolation, not many of us will get to say the same. I only hope his friends and family will find some small comfort in knowing that he died while bringing happiness to others.
Did you watch the Macy's Day parade? Can you imagine seeing this if you were there?
