Paula Broadwell's Emails to Jill Kelley Were Reportedly 'Unhinged'

Jill KelleyThere's no doubt this whole David Petraeus scandal is confusing, with more players, twists, and scandals within scandals than your average soap opera. Let's call it The Old & The Restless. But one thing is foh sho: Petraeus' ex-mistress Paula Broadwell, despite that Cameron Diaz-esque physique, is one insecure broad. It was her stay-away-from-my-man emails to "socialite" Jill Kelley that got the ball (and heads) rolling on this scandal -- despite the fact that, ya know, Petraeus wasn't her man and that their affair had ended months prior, and that she herself was married. If anyone should have been sending catty emails, it was Holly Petraeus, but she seems too classy for that.

And now we find out that these emails were reportedly more than just bitchy and juvenile. A friend of Kelley says they were life-threatening and "unhinged." Is anyone surprised?

Kelley's friend told the Daily News:

This wasn’t just a catfight. Any normal person who got emails like that would have immediately called the police.

The emails reportedly bragged of Broadwell's "powerful friends" and promised to make Kelley "go away." Says the friend:

This wasn’t just a case of cyber-bullying. [Kelley] was scared for her life. She had reason to be. These emails are the real thing. When she read them to me, I literally had the shivers.

The friend adds that the emails were the work of someone "clearly unhinged." Previously, it was reported that the emails asked Kelley if her husband knew about her behavior with General Petraeus -- and accused her of feeling him up under a table. Kelley has always insisted she and the General are just friends.

You wonder what would make Broadwell -- a successful author -- risk her career for such imbecilic ramblings. Not to mention her family. Love does make you crazy, but were these two even in love? Or is Broadwell just the alpha type who views most other women as threats? She recently managed to slam her car door on a female reporter at her home, bloodying her forehead.

Kelley's friend thinks that Broadwell is more than just a diva. She told The News:

I just wanted to set the record straight that this woman [Broadwell] has serious mental problems. She needs to be behind bars before she hurts someone.

Of course, this is the Kelley camp version of events. We don't know what exactly was in the emails. But it's a shame that smart, successful women turn on other women so quickly, and for so little reason.

What do you think of Broadwell's emails? Have you ever felt threatened by another woman?

Are we back to the Hoover days with the FBI hoovering up emails without a court order and leaking the investigation in a partisan way? There is a new video that I saw that deals with this issue as a parody. It's funny but scary. The video suggest we all hide our internet traces using a VPN, but how did we get into this position as a country? Since the Patriot Act have we given up so many freedoms that our only recourse is to hide under a technology rock? That this in fact happened to our CIA Director is stunning. Shouldn't the FBI be vilified in this? But somehow they are not and it has become a personal tragedy rather than a governance tragedy. The media has barely covered the FBI side of the scandal.
