Believe it or not, the horrible story of a female teacher allegedly pretending to have a son so that a male student could come over and "play" isn't the only highly disturbing tale to come out of the Florida teachers' union today. Bianca Vacek, 51, has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse, battery on a law-enforcement officer, and resisting arrest after a 12-year-old student accused her of drunkenly putting out a cigarette on the inside of his bottom lip.
Let's hear it for Florida teachers, huh?
The boy was inexplicably staying with Bianca and her husband, who happens to also be a teacher at Poinciana High School in Kissimmee, and a day or so after the dinnertime incident, the kid's mom saw burn marks on her son's nose and lips and called the cops.
Bianca's husband Tom was also arrested for failing to report child abuse.
OK. What the hell is going on. This just boggles the mind. Two teachers, husband and wife no less, behind bars for child abuse? This is appalling. The school board says they're taking the situation very seriously since it, you know, involves some of their faculty burning students' faces, but still. There should be severe consequences for these people if they're found guilty.
Sure, they'll have to pay some time or a fine or do community service or whatever it is the justice system deems fair, but I should hope they're never allowed to teach in a school again. I mean, I'm not sure who would hire a teacher with child abuse on their record, but there should be a mandate that prevents Bianca and Tom Vacek from working with kids. While the investigation is ongoing, they've been suspended from school, which is a start.
Bad week for teachers in the Sunshine State, I guess.
What do you think of this story?

Making a negative, sweeping statement about teachers in Florida wasn't the nicest thing to do. These were two individuals, not representatives of the state's education department.
@lovinjerseymama said it best. way to generalize. i'm sure lots of teachers (very good, hard working, loving and caring ones at that) in Florida are just as upset, hurt and dismayed by these accusations as any other parent or teacher would be. let's not just lump them all up in one big spoiled apple barrel, shall we?
@christie - actually there's a total of three teachers here: the one who had the "imaginary" son, the woman who burned the 12 year old boy, and that woman's husband. if you read the article, he is also a teacher and was also charged with the abuse since he did not report it.
and it doesn't change the fact that even so, the blogger just generalized *thousands* of teachers because of the acts of these 3 imbeciles.
