Indianapolis Explosion Kills Two & Devastates a Whole Neighborhood (VIDEO)

OMG 9

indianapolis explosionA mysterious explosion blasted an Indianapolis neighborhood last night, killing two people. The blast and resulting fire have caused an estimated $3.6 million in damage. Two homes were completely destroyed, and many others damaged. Investigators are trying to find out what caused this terrible explosion.

The explosion occurred around 11:00 p.m. last night, and the fire was so dangerous some 200 residents were evacuated from the area. Witnesses say the neighborhood now looks like a "war zone." Residents whose homes were the least damaged were allowed to return this afternoon.

The Indy Star is now reporting that the two dead are believed to be Jennifer L. and John D. Longworth, a teacher at nearby Southwest Elementary School and her husband, respectively. Police have not yet confirmed this. The 40-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter who lived in the house where the explosion originated happened to be in Ohio at the time. My heart goes out to everyone who was affected by this mysterious explosion and fire.

This was one huge blast. It was felt as far as three miles away. There were reports of damage all over the place. Two houses were flattened...

What could have caused this explosion? My first thought was a meth lab -- of course. Anyone else think the same thing? But this is not the typical neighborhood for a meth lab -- from what I've read, it sounds like a solidly middle-class neighborhood filled with professionals. Then again, you just never know. Investigators haven't ruled out anything yet. Regardless, with the originating house so destroyed I'm sure It'll be hard to figure out what exactly happened.

What do you think could have caused the explosion?
