Seven People Shot in Milwaukee Hair Salon Near Popular Mall (VIDEO)

by Kiri Blakeley on October 21, 2012 at 3:49 PM

Police are hunting a man suspected of opening fire in hair salon in a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The man, whom NBCNews reports is named Radcliff Haughton, is reportedly the estranged husband of one of the Azana salon's hair stylists, who had apparently taken out a restraining order on him a couple of weeks ago. At least seven people were shot.

Mass shootings are so common in this country now that we hardly pay attention to them anymore unless they are particularly large and gruesome and have some kind of pop culture twist to them like the Aurora, Colorado Dark Knight Rises shootings. It was only three months ago that seven people were killed in a mass shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. And it was only five days ago a man shot five people, and killed three (including a three year old), in an Ohio apartment complex. And yet neither presidential candidate has talked much, if at all, about gun control.

The scene of the spa shooting was across from Brookfield Square Mall. It sounds like it could have been a lot worse -- reportedly none of the four people already brought to a local hospital are in critical condition. No word on the other three people. Police are also checking out whether the suspect may have left behind a homemade bomb at the scene.

NBCNews reports that the suspect's home has been surrounded.

It seems as far as this country goes, none of us are ever quite safe from the possibility of gunfire, whether we're in school, at church, at temple, or in a mall or other place of business. It's disgusting, despicable, and certainly makes the U.S. look far from the country it can and should be. Seriously, we can't go a week or two without a mass shooting?!!

I, for one, am really tired of the "guns don't kill people" rhetoric. If that were true, then nuclear bombs would be available to all over the counter, wouldn't they? I mean, considering that people don't nuclear bomb people, nucelar bombs nuclear bomb people. But no one really wants to risk selling nuclear bombs because of the truth -- that someone will inevitably detonate one given the chance because they had a bad day, or got fired, or their spouse wants a divorce. It's the same with guns.

Something needs to be done. Right now, let's hope that everyone reportedly shot in Brookfield will be okay.

Are you scared of ever being caught in a mass shooting?

Guns in properly trained hands are perfectly safe. Tighter gun control will do nothing but take guns out of law abiding hands and send them criminals underground I get theirs. Seeing as how criminals are criminals, I doubt tighter gun control is going to stop them from going on their shooting spree. Imagine how differently things could have turned out in Colorado if someone in that theater had their sidearm on them? Guns aren't allowed into places where you have to pay admission to enter. So therefor, no one did. But that law didn't stop that psychopath from bringing his in. See? Tighter gun control only puts more lives at risk because it turns places like movies theaters into target rich environments for, wait, what's the word, oh yeah, CRIMINALS!!!!!!

I agree with WCURiver Rat!!  The candidates arent talking gun control bc most responsible americans don't want their rights taken away.  Maybe require a test or mental illness assessment - that might  help.

I think it's shameful that you're this tragedy to further your personal political agendas. Discussions about gun control should be reserved for when cold hard facts can speak for themselves and not someone's close minded opinion.

Never fearful because my husband (and soon myself) is trained in gun shooting and safety and has his concealed carry license so he almost always has his gun with him. You'd never be able to tell either. I'm in the process of getting my concealed carry permit myself and then will always have a gun in my diaper bag. If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns. You have nothing to fear from the law abiding citizens you open or concealed carry their guns. It's the ones who have violent intentions you have to fear...and outlawing guns won't make a damn bit of difference in that.

Im sick of these articles wanting stricter gun control from morons. Please, do a little research. How about checking out the gun control laws in Chicago and then looking at our rate of gun violence. Strictest policies in the nation with the highest number of shootings.

I hate guns, but I agree with other posters; more laws will not stop criminals. People who want to break the law will find a way to do it, no matter what laws are in place. Law abiding citizens shouldn't be punished because of criminals.

You always forget the shooting at the Family Life Council headquarters. You always forget that one.
What part of "these are not responsible gun owners, so they wont follow the law" dont you understand.

I feel as if someone HAD to know that the shooter was mentally disturbed. Maybe it's from my own personal experience, but I can tell when someone is having a behavioral change - whether it be depression, psychosis, suicide, self-harm, etc. I've always made sure to make myself avaliable whether it's 2am phone calls or going with them to therapy. I've been there, and it's a VERY scary place to be in.

You gotta take responsibility. Whether he killed those people with a gun, bow and arrow, granade launcher or a car, it shouldn't matter. The sad fact is, 7 people were injured because of one person's actions.

Let's not forget to mention that he had a restraining order against him. He wasn't supposed to have a gun anyway, but criminals will ALWAYS find a way.
