Oh, that Rep. Todd Akin. He'd be laughable if he wasn't so ... damn ... effin' ... scary. I don't know where this guy went to school, but wherever it was, if he went to one, he's learned a couple of things: 1) women who are "legimately raped" don't get pregnant because "the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."
Now comes video of Akin asserting another one of his wackadoodle not-based-in-reality theories. He claims that doctors who perform abortions do so on "women who are not actually pregnant." Because, um, I can't think of a reason. There is no reason. Or maybe it's because Akin lives in a world where if you swallow a Twinkie, you'll get pregnant, if you vote Democrat, a baby dies, and a woman's uterus contains a little rape-sperm ninja that hi-yahs! until all the bad sperm are shut down.
Back in 1608 2008, Akin gave a speech on the floor of the House, where he compared abortionists to terrorists. Actually, it's people who blow up abortion clinics and who kill doctors who perform abortions and who threaten women who seek abortions who are the terrorists, but I get it. Akin does not believe in this legal procedure. And he's using some very strong language to get that across. I don't eat meat. I don't call people who work in slaughterhouses terrorists. Because I'm not crazy.
Anyway, back to Akin. As he was giving this deranged rant speech, he said:
You find that along with the culture of death go all kinds of other law-breaking: not following good sanitary procedure, giving abortions to women who are not actually pregnant, cheating on taxes, all these kinds of things, misuse of anesthetics so that people die or almost die.
Er, sooooo ... apparently Akin knows that doctors who perform abortions not only cheat on their taxes but perform abortions on women who aren't pregnant. Because ... what???
If you look into any field -- any field at all -- let alone the medical field, you're going to find some horror stories. How about people who inject cement into women's asses? So maybe Akin heard some kind of story about a woman who wasn't pregnant getting an "abortion"? But he makes it sound like this is routine.
I wonder if Akin eats meat? That's a "culture of death" too. He doesn't say. He probably thinks if you eat a hamburger, you give birth to a cow.
What do you think of his comments?
