8-Year-Old Allegedly Forced to Act Out 'Porn' by Other Kids Isn't Necessarily Being Sexually Abused

Say What!? 21

This is one of those stories that will sicken and horrify you, but it will also make you think. Parents of an 8-year-old boy are suing a university that runs a second grade school where their son was a student. They say their son was forced into acting out scenes from pornographic videos that students found online using school computers. They say their son was forced to engage in sex acts with other students. They say their son suffered "horrific abuse." I say this sounds tragic and horrible. I also say the parents weren't there and don't know what went on. I say that kids that young play sex games. And they don't know it's wrong. In fact, it's natural for kids to act out sexually with each other.

According to the lawsuit against Ball State University, which runs Burris Laboratory School in Muncie, Indiana, the students had access to porno on the school computers. If so, this is very bizarre. Most workplaces can't access pornography sites, let alone schools. Were these really porno sites? Or were they finding stuff on YouTube and other places? Either way, kids should not be able to access sexually explicit material online at school. (If that happened. This was alleged.)

The lawsuit says that four children would then "act the scenes out on each other." Kids do act out adult roles and they can play at sexual behavior. I remember my young friends and I used to dress up "like hookers" (or what we imagined were hookers) and we hadn't even seen Pretty Woman! We grew up in well-manicured suburbia. There were no hookers running around. We were all good kids and none of us were sexually active. We didn't have computers or pornography. What made us think we wanted to be hookers? Or even knew what they looked like? Honestly, looking back, I have zero idea. We were playing around with being "adults" and that's all I know.

The school says that after hearing from a student that four boys were engaging in inappropriate behavior, the matter was immediately reported to authorities and investigated. The school also says the behavior that was investigated is NOT the behavior that is alleged in the lawsuit (some of the behavior includes oral sex). The prosecutor confirmed the incidents were investigated but couldn't say anything else because it involves juveniles.

The parents say their child is traumatized. Maybe he is. Maybe he also is just scared of getting in trouble. Maybe the parents want money from the school. Oh yeah, there is a lawsuit.

Was there some kind of perverse porn-inspired sex ring at this second grade school? Or was there a bunch of curious 8-year-olds playing sex games? Either way, the school had a responsibility to keep that off their property. If they didn't, then that was negligent.

If any kind of sexual games go on at all in school, should the school be sued?

You are so far off on this I don't even think there's hope for you. I hope so much that you don't have kids. There is a HUGE difference between "show me yours I'll show you mine" and being forced to act out sex acts from a porno. If you don't know that, PLEASE don't ever become a mother. If you already are...lord help those children!!!

So if you saw your young daughter playing "hooker" you would be ok with that? You wouldn't explain to her what a hooker was and that it not a good thing to pretend to be? I think by 8 most kids shoul know that pretending to have sex is inappropriate! My daughter is 8 and knowd what a hooker is and what porn is. I explained it to her in an age appropriate way when she started using the internet.

Are you insane? THAT IS SEXUAL ABUSE! When I was little my friends and I never performed sexual acts on each other, we didn't know what sex was!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought this writer was a little off-kilter.

And, wtf? Why did you know what a hooker was at 8??

It is completely unnacceptable for an eight year old to look at porn. That alone would've traumatiEd me as a child. Of course kids are curious, but its not natural at all for a little kid to suck another little kids d*ck. They had to have learned that somewhere, I had NO idea about oral sex when I was that young and if I had been told about it I would've probably puked. And school computers should not have access to porn.

Excuse me, but rather than berate the author about whether or not she's of sound mind ... shouldn't we be outraged that these children allegedly had access to porn on school computers?  Or that they were reinacting sex acts?  Where the he!! were the teachers or any members of the administration?  Parent volunteers?  No one around to nip it in the bud before "their son was forced to engage in sex acts with other students.?"  Besides, the writer states "Kids do act out adult roles and they can play at sexual behavior."  She never says that what happened here should be dismissed.

I found out about sex as a child because I was molested for FOUR years. While I don't think children should be totally sheltered, I think you (author) are completely messed up in the head. This child didn't have the knowledge to consent and you even say he was forced. You really need to reevaluate the way you write things.

As a teacher, I can't imagine that the school computers were used to access the porn. The ipads, possibly, because they are taken home, and we don't have control over the home networks. This incident was investigated and dismissed by the local authorities because nothing criminal occurred. While I wonder about the level of supervision, there is definitely more to the story. Another article lists this boy as not "the main victim" and alleges that he both performed and received oral sex. We don't normally supervise bathroom time until our students are in 6th grade, and apart from inadequate supervision, I'm not certain why the school should be held liable.

Now I have a daughter in 1st grade and I couldn't even descirbe the feelings I would have if something like this was to ever happen to her. I don't understand how the children were able to see porn on a school computer but they need to figure it out and fix that before this incident happens again. If in fact they did see this on school computers then YES the school should be held responsible. They got the idea while at school cuz of the unsecure internet access they had then did these acts on school grounds. Any parnet would want something major done about this not just an oops I'm sorry.
