Political Bloggers Go Toe to Toe in Google Hangout! (VIDEO)

Google Hangout

Ever wonder what would happen if Republican political blogger Jenny Erikson and Democratic political blogger Nadia Jones were in the same room together?

Well I have. And I pretty much got my wish today, moderating an election discussion with both ladies for our first-ever Moms Matter 2012 Google Hangout! As you'd expect, these ladies definitely did not see eye to eye! Check out the video after the jump.

Clearly, we covered a lot in a 30-minute span

From Mitt Romney's 47 percent remark to the latest polls on Romney's and Obama's standings to Ann Romney and Michelle Obama to media bias to the upcoming debates to foreign policy ... you name it, if it was in the news over the last few days, we probably talked about it.

More from The Stir: Military Moms Share Their Political Concerns at DNC (VIDEO)

I really enjoyed hearing the perspectives of Nadia and Jenny. They don't really agree on anything politically, so it was interesting to hear one blogger answer and then the other give her (radically different) thoughts on what had been said. And I was proud (and not surprised, actually) that both bloggers managed to keep it civil. I get so frustrated by the number of people who can't seem to deal with others whose opinions are different from their own. I like to think that moms have it in them to lead the way when it comes to civil political discourse. Jenny and Nadia proved it can be done!

This is only the first of several more Google Hangouts to come between now and Election Day. We'll be talking to other political bloggers in upcoming hangouts, and potentially other moms as well!

Any topics you'd like to see discussed?

This is a great series and I'm looking forward to seeing the next installments. I believe Jenny won this debate -- she seemed more knowledgable, personable, and prepared with statistics.

Recently, for the most part, we have been pretty civil to each other. I only wish you would be more balanced and have more conservative bloggers. I feel for Jenny, she gets the brunt of a lot of the liberal commentors.

I hope that you will have Maressa Brown on, ans ask her about her hateful blogs on Ann Romney. I also hope that you have a forum where we can ask questions of the bloggers.

Oh BTW, I enjoyed this a lot. It was refreshing to watch a very civil debate.

I agree with Bills that we need to be more civil and that we are trying more lately.  Its hard, when you're attacked a natural instinct is to strike back, but it benefits no one.  I also hope we get a chance to ask the bloggers question.  I also agree it would be great if the Stir could give us some balance.

Oh Bills did you hear the new Mia Love story today?  I mean I know you didn't hear about it on the Stir but did you see it?

Right off the bat, Jenny thinks she can make something a fact by simply _saying_ it's a fact. It is untrue to say 47% of Americans don't pay federal taxes. That has been disproven and surely as a "political blogger" she knows as much. However, the states with the highest numbers of citizens who don't pay taxes....are majority Republican. There is no way Jenny believes the garbage she spews.

It is interesting to see these bloggers in person. It validates the opinion I had already formed from their writing. You can tell a lot about who a person really is when you get to see them in action.
