If there was ever any doubt as to what Mitt Romney thinks about most of the people in this country (and about Barack Obama supporters in particular), it can be put to rest. Romney was caught during what appears to be a fundraising dinner at the Boca Raton home of controversial private equity manager Marc Leder saying unimaginably entitled, out-of-touch, and downright cruel things about the American people.
Romney has never tried to appear warm and fuzzy. He is a business man who made his (vast) living tearing other people down for his own gain. But even for a Master of the Universe like Romney, his off the cuff comments seem callous and breathtakingly unaware of his position.
Essentially, he believes he would have a better shot at being President if he were Mexican. He believes 47 percent of Americans are entitled moochers. And he believes Americans are too dumb to want to listen to "intellectual" arguments. This is the man you want to elect? See below:
Look, Romney doesn't have to be likable. He doesn't have to be a guy you want to get a beer with. George W. Bush was that and look how well that turned out. He does need to be HUMAN, though. And he has failed at that in the most basic way.
The idea that a man making as much as he has made in his life balks at people feeling entitled to, I don't know, FOOD seems so unimaginably out to lunch, it's like a joke about rich people. His clueless cruelty begs comparison to all kinds of entitled, out-of-touch wealthy people throughout history. Maybe we should ask Marie Antoinette how ignoring plight worked out for her. Oh wait ...

I also take his comments personally. I am an Obama supporter and I have paid an ungodly sum to the IRS this year. I have never once taken any kind of government assistance. My family votes in the same precinct as Romney for god's sake. We aren't victims. We aren't entitled. And we don't expect government handouts.
We believe that it's the responsibility of those of us who were born into lucky circumstances and who availed ourselves of clean water, paved roads, good fire and police forces to give back. That might mean higher taxes. I would pay them. I am comfortable enough in my life and circumstances to WANT to pay taxes so that others might have chances at education, food, housing, and all the other things our taxes cover.
Moreover, as David Brooks said so eloquently in his column today in The New York Times:
The people who receive the disproportionate share of government spending are not big-government lovers. They are Republicans.
It's easy to dismiss Obama's supporters as whiny, entitled moochers. In fact, that couldn't be more wrong. The Obama supporters I know are all hard workers. Most have master's degrees or higher. Most are paying upwards of $30,000-50,000 in taxes in the past year.
You are wrong Mr. Romney. And because of that, you will lose. You should lose. A president who thinks like Romney is dangerous, indeed.
Do you find Romney's comments offensive?

I think his comments are disgusting. My husband and I do pay our taxes and we dont get any aid at all. I dont support him becuase of his stance on women's issues. We are undergoing fertility treatments to conceive our first baby due to my having infertility. We pay for them out of our own money and it aint cheap, let me tell you. I do NOT want someone telling me i can't pursue treatement because their beliefs are different than mine.
I dont think he knows what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck or having to scrimp to pay bills. I have been so poor that we ate pasta and beans for a week and scraped change to pay the rent. That was under Bush though. I can tell you that under Obama, our finances have gotten much better. And not because we receive anything, because we do not, not one dime. Our taxes even doubled, but so did our income.
So sad that my vote this election will be a vote AGAINST one candidate and not FOR either. These two are the best the US has to offer for a leader??????
No, I'm not offended. I agree with him .
He's absolutely correct. Obama's base, or any democrat for that matter, is largely made up of people who receive entitlements and they don't want to give them up. That doesn't mean all his supporters receive entitlements or that all entitlements go to people who don't want to work or that Republicans don't receive entitlements, but statistically he's correct. Most taxpayers don't mind paying taxes they have a problem with how much they pay and where they go. We understand taxes are needed to build roads, pay police officers, provide national defense, etc. but don't want them to go to countries who hate us, people who choose not to work, illegal immigrants, etc. The country is broke and difficult choices are going to have to be made. If Romney is elected he will make those choices and not everyone will be happy but things CAN'T keep going the way they are. And don't start with if the rich paid more it would be better. If the "rich" paid what the democrats want them to pay it would fund the government for 8 1/2 days.
Wow.....I literally cannot form a rational argument because this man disgusts me so. How can he even consider running for President when he just wants to write off half the population of the US?
Yes, there are a lot of lazy people out there. I am not arguing that point. But should my family and I be written off just because we don't pay out every year for taxes? I'm some sort of moocher because I bust my arse 40+ hours a week to end up just barely above 50% of the national poverty level?
Though reading these comments, I feel like I should really just be quiet, because it's obvious that because I get assistance, despite working my ass off, that I am just some "entitled moocher" who needs to go fall off a cliff somewhere.I agree @LokisMama...I guarantee if the ones calling people who recieve assistance "moochers" were in the same situation, they would have a completely different outlook. My kids receive state insurance, and my husband works 2 jobs because he wants me to stay home with the children. We DO pay our taxes also, and I find his remarks absolutely disgusting. I will certainly be voting for president Obama this November.
LOL! Romney's words will not change one vote- if your a Liberal you're just saying "see - I told you he was evil" and if you're Conservative "it's the truth" - there is no big reveal here. However, what should be revealing is that mainstream media is running with this...THIS is headline news - you have dig for information on F&F, our foreign policy and the results of which we are seeing in the Middle East, the real numbers on our economy, the GM fiasco, etc. etc. etc. It's scary what captures the liberal attention....
