Stupid 'Innocence of Muslims' Trailer Should Remain on YouTube (VIDEO)

by Jenny Erikson on September 20, 2012 at 8:43 AM

innocence of muslimsThe tragic attack on the United States Embassy in Libya last week has spurred the natural question asked whenever such events occur: Why? Why were Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other American diplomats killed? Why have there been uprisings from the Arab Spring against United States Embassies in Yemen and Egypt? Why are the attackers burning American flags while laughing and dancing in the ash?

The instigator seems to be a little video on YouTube titled, Innocence of Muslims. The horrendously low-budget, incredibly offensive preview mocks Mohammad as a womanizer and pedophile. Understandably, Muslims were offended by the depiction.

After the murders in Libya, Southern California filmmaker Nakoula Basseley was taken in for questioning for his role in the production of the film. Apparently, creating media offensive to a particular religious group warrants taking someone into custody in the middle of the night for police questioning. Someone better tell Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

The Obama administration asked Google to take the video down from YouTube, but they refused. The video may be insulting, but that doesn’t mean that it caused the current unrest in the Middle East. Violence in that region has been around far longer than YouTube, after all.

It’s scary that President Obama asked for free speech to be squelched by calling for the removal of the offending video from the Internet. One of the greatest freedoms we enjoy in America is the freedom of speech -- the freedom to speak our minds no matter how offensive it might be to other people.

If we’re going to start banning stuff for being offensive, I’ve got a list of things that I’m sure will qualify, from MTV’s Jersey Shore to the common use of the N-word in the black community.

Or maybe we’re just banning things that are offensive to Muslims ... in which case we’ll have to ban bikinis, female equality, homosexuality, swearing in general, alcohol, bacon, and playing chess. Oh, and anyone that doesn’t believe in Allah -- they are the worst offenders of Islam.

This is America, where we have the freedom to believe what we want, and the freedom to mock others. Instead of focusing on this stupid video, maybe we could figure out why the safe house where Chris Stevens, gay ambassador in a predominantly Muslim territory, was not being guarded by the usual contingent of Marines on the eleventh anniversary of the al Qaeda terror attacks of 9/11?

This video can not be viewed on The Stir Mobile.

It seems to me that someone dropped the ball, and it wasn’t YouTube.

What is scarier are the media hiding the stories of Obama and the state department knowing of the attacks coming and not protecting him.

Do you want to be able to yell "FIRE" in a crowded movie theater, too? There are laws against inciting to violence for a reason. Heck, there are even "attractive nuisance" laws. Free speech isn't the same as free of consequences. If the film is stirring up violence that is costing American lives, shouldn't we try to calm that?  Every post summing up to "Obama is bad!" is pretty damn weak writing. Nothing is that simple.

what i found really offensive is people letting something wrong going on by claiming the freedom of speech. heck people! wake up! it's not because you have the right to do something that you can go around abusing others and their deepest beliefs. would you be happy if someone took something extremely important to you and trash it in front of you. There's a thing called respect, that's severely lacking in this whole story. I don't say violence was the right answer there's no right answer. You have on one hand muslims people who have witnessed something they hold extremely precious being trampled upon and on the other the victims of the uprisings and their family. fundamentally there's no bad guy or good guys, there are just people reacting in a violent way to something horrible that happened. Oh yeah! to comment on something that was said about obama trying to have the video removed. That was the right thing to do! your rights end where the other's begin. You learned that in primary school. If that little rule has been actually understood and applied i don't think there would have been an uprising.

Obama is also responsible for male pattern baldness, paper cuts, and the Kardashian's being on TV.

Maia...I don't understand your point. It is then for Christains to start killing others in a riot when shit in a cross is called 'art'? Or for Mormons to go on a deadly riot for the Broadway play 'book of mormon'? Or for me to be killed because I believe Islam is a violent religion? What?

He was actually taken in for question because he was violating his parole. By being on a computer. He is on parole because the "filmmaker" was found guilty of bank wire fraud.
