Michelle Obama took to the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, and rocked the house. Whether you're a fan or not, you'll find her speech was truly inspirational. As former RNC Chair Michael Steele said, "I thought the First Lady gave a hell of a speech. I know I'm supposed to be partisan, but I'm an American."
Here are 8 of her most inspiring quotes:
- If farmers and blacksmiths could win independence from an empire ... if immigrants could leave behind everything they knew for a better life on our shores ... if women could be dragged to jail for seeking the vote ... if a generation could defeat a depression, and define greatness for all time ... if a young preacher could lift us to the mountaintop with his righteous dream ... and if proud Americans can be who they are and boldly stand at the altar with who they love ... then surely, surely we can give everyone in this country a fair chance at that great American Dream.
- We learned about gratitude and humility -- that so many people had a hand in our success, from the teachers who inspired us to the janitors who kept our school clean ... and we were taught to value everyone’s contribution and treat everyone with respect.
- I have seen firsthand that being president doesn’t change who you are -- it reveals who you are.
- Our life before moving to Washington was filled with simple joys ... Saturdays at soccer games, Sundays at grandma’s house ... and a date night for Barack and me was either dinner or a movie, because as an exhausted mom, I couldn’t stay awake for both.
- Barack and I were both raised by families who didn’t have much in the way of money or material possessions but who had given us something far more valuable -- their unconditional love, their unflinching sacrifice, and the chance to go places they had never imagined for themselves.
- [W]hen you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed.
- And believe it or not, when we were first married, our combined monthly student loan bills were actually higher than our mortgage. We were so young, so in love, and so in debt.
- If so many brave men and women could wear our country’s uniform and sacrifice their lives for our most fundamental rights ... then surely we can do our part as citizens of this great democracy to exercise those rights ... surely, we can get to the polls and make our voices heard on Election Day.

I am not a big fan of either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama, but I am a huge fan of both Michelle and Ann. Michelle's speech last night was amazing, and definitely stole the show for me!
For a while I was feeling that I was "stuck" voting for Obama simply because I don't agree with the GOP platform, but having a woman like Michelle as first lady goes a long way to making me feel more comfortable with my choice.
drive by said "Can honestly say that ive never seen so many UNATTRACTIVE women in one place, but then again it was the DNC."
You're the perfect conservative, and I mean that quite honestly. Your comment speaks volumes.
billsfan: calm down before you give yourself a stroke! You made a blanket assumption about me because you didn't agree with my pov. I am not a liberal. I am not a conservative. I am neither GOP or Democrat. I am a moderate Independent. I was raised in a Southern Baptist household, my dad is a minister, I went to a conservative Christian school, I live in a state here in the south that is so red, that our state school mascot is the "Crimson Tide", I am vehemently Pro Life, but for gay rights. My dad and brother are so far right wing that they make Bill O'Reilly look like Keith Olberman. But you know what? We all get along because we can be civil with each other, because at the end of the day, we are not Reps or Dems, blue or red, Libs or Conservatives -- we are people. Americans. With our right to believe as we choose. And we shouldn't slam others for exersicing that same right.
and another thing Billsfan: please point out where I "accused conservative commenters on calling others whores and sluts". I think you will be hard pressed to. And also, I believe the point of my post is that BOTH SIDES are equally guilty. I never once toted the liberals over the conservatives. I stated several times that both sides cannot bare to cede that the other one has a valid point. Stop putting words in my mouth to make them fit your narrow viewpoint of those who don't agree with you. Sheesh.
billsfan: this will be my final post as well, bc clearly this conversation is just going in circles. 1. I never claimed nor do I pretend to be perfect. 2. An example of attacking someone? You attacked ME. My original post did not refer to you, I never mentioned you. Yet you called me out and accused me of only saying this on a liberal blog, and that I would never say it on a conservative blog. You basically called me a liar and a hypocrit. That, my dear lady, is attacking someone. Have a blessed day.
Emma, funny how you probably wont say that on a conservative blog where the commenters are calling people bitches, ignorant and so forth. I haven't personally attacked anyone and yet Meghan who is a nonmember calls me.names.
I will to see if you will make the same observation on one of Jennys articles.

She admits right here that she attacks posters. She is a liar and a hypocrite.
