Michelle Obama took to the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, and rocked the house. Whether you're a fan or not, you'll find her speech was truly inspirational. As former RNC Chair Michael Steele said, "I thought the First Lady gave a hell of a speech. I know I'm supposed to be partisan, but I'm an American."
Here are 8 of her most inspiring quotes:
- If farmers and blacksmiths could win independence from an empire ... if immigrants could leave behind everything they knew for a better life on our shores ... if women could be dragged to jail for seeking the vote ... if a generation could defeat a depression, and define greatness for all time ... if a young preacher could lift us to the mountaintop with his righteous dream ... and if proud Americans can be who they are and boldly stand at the altar with who they love ... then surely, surely we can give everyone in this country a fair chance at that great American Dream.
- We learned about gratitude and humility -- that so many people had a hand in our success, from the teachers who inspired us to the janitors who kept our school clean ... and we were taught to value everyone’s contribution and treat everyone with respect.
- I have seen firsthand that being president doesn’t change who you are -- it reveals who you are.
- Our life before moving to Washington was filled with simple joys ... Saturdays at soccer games, Sundays at grandma’s house ... and a date night for Barack and me was either dinner or a movie, because as an exhausted mom, I couldn’t stay awake for both.
- Barack and I were both raised by families who didn’t have much in the way of money or material possessions but who had given us something far more valuable -- their unconditional love, their unflinching sacrifice, and the chance to go places they had never imagined for themselves.
- [W]hen you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed.
- And believe it or not, when we were first married, our combined monthly student loan bills were actually higher than our mortgage. We were so young, so in love, and so in debt.
- If so many brave men and women could wear our country’s uniform and sacrifice their lives for our most fundamental rights ... then surely we can do our part as citizens of this great democracy to exercise those rights ... surely, we can get to the polls and make our voices heard on Election Day.

Just the comments on here from both sides are exactly the reason the politcal climate in this country has gotten so out of hand. No one wants to admit that the other side has any valid points, any morals, anything in common with the other -- each side paints the other in the worst possible light. If you disagree with someone, it's almost never polite and respectful, it's nasty and name calling and baiting. And if you don't have a vaild arguement, it's always "but the other side did...." If moms on a blog comment section can't even get along, how the hell do we expect our elected leaders to work together for the betterment of our country?
I will to see if you will make the same observation on one of Jennys articles.
Michelle Obama told a bunch of lies last night. What a disappointing speech from her. I thought she was better than this.
billsfan1104, I didn't single you out, I didn't single anyone out, however if you really want to go this route -- I see you comment on almost every single political blog, be it conservative or liberal, and your comments are always the same. It's always pointing out how the liberals did this, the liberals did that, so and so called a conservative such and such. Never postive, always trashing anyone who disagrees with you. You never have anything constructive to say, you go after people, then when they attack back, you become all passive aggressive and claim that they are picking on you. And I try to avoid Jenny's articles because they make my blood boil. Not because she is a conservative, but because she is of the same mentality as you and a lot of other people on this site, be they liberal (Janelle) or conservative. "My view is the only one that counts, and if you disagree you must be a ......." (insert racist, idiot, bobble head, etc here) And way to COMPLETLEY miss my point about how if everyday moms can't even be the slightest bit bipartisan, how do we expect our leaders to.
OMG Emma, please point out where I attacked someone?? Please I will wait. I havent attacked anyone. I have been the one called names and so forth. I singled out you, because of your post. You come in here and lecture others about how hateful they all are, but you have yet to call out your own. You have yet to call out the hateful hateful posts about Ann romney that Maressa and Deborah did on her miscarriage. I only say these things, because I am tired of the one-sided blogs on this site. Its suppose to be a mommy blog site that is suppose to represent ALL mothers. Just not the liberal mothers and yes that is all it does. I have never ever told someone that they are ignorant, stupid if they didnt agree with me. I have had some healthy debates, but it hasnt come down to name calling on either side. The only ones calling me names, are the same typical liberals that cannot debate, because that is all they have. They are the same ones that go on the two conservitive blogs and say hateful crap, just like RHONDA said on anther post. She said that Jenny deserves the hate.
I can't believe she wants to talk about the military. When her husband doen't want our military to vote. how dare she talk about the american dream . The peresident is crushing somany dreams by regulating coal and oil. I am aembarrased to be a Mom and an American every time I here her speak. She is so busy trying to bea aceleberity. She doesn't spenquality time wiht her kids.
and another thing Emma, I had a person that use to be on this site private message me the most vile vile things. She even said some vile things about my eldest daughter and her battle with Epilepsy. I have not and never will talk about other people personally and attack them. I oint out the hypocricsy on this site all the time, because it is rampant. Do I always do it in the most tactful way??? Probably not. I am not good with the written word. But I at least I do not call others ignorant, stupid, whores, sluts as you accused the conservatve commenters on this site of doing, and not even acknowledging what the liberal commenters have said.
