empty chairThere was a lot of hype last week at the Republican National Convention over an announced ‘mystery speaker.’ There was much speculation over who the speaker would be, including the possibility of the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. In the end, it was Clint Eastwood that made our day, coming on stage just before Mitt Romney.

The Academy Award winning actor, producer, and director gave a fun speech about how not everyone in Hollywood is a hardcore liberal, despite the common misconception. He said that many conservatives, by their nature, don’t go around ‘hot-dogging’ their political beliefs. “But they’re there. Believe me, they’re there,” he assured the audience. 

There were some funny lines, as the ‘invisible president’ (represented by an empty chair) apparently said some inappropriate things, remarked upon by Eastwood with such comments as, “What do you want me to tell Romney? I can't tell him to do that. I can't tell him to do that to himself … you're crazy, you're absolutely crazy. You're getting as bad as Biden.”

Overall, it was a nice boost to those that are tired of the biased media that is so skewed that it’s even starting to bother Democrats. Clint Eastwood mentioned some of the media bias out there, and since his speech, it’s been in full force. Barack Obama has been such a disappointing president that even Democrats are admitting that he has not lived up to the hype that he promised. Some prominent actors tweeted in support of Eastwood’s ‘empty chair’ speech, but were met with disdain by the mainstream, Obama-loving media.

George Stephanopoulos may not agree, but there is definitely a media bias against Republicans out there. It’s everywhere, and it’s annoying. Even little things, like ABC broadcasting the incorrect hash tag for Twitter during the convention. The official tag was #GOP2012, but ABC broadcast it as #2012GOP. That’s just one of thousands of little examples of mainstream media bias.

Look on the cover of any major newspaper on any given day, and you’ll see unflattering pictures of Republicans that making the news, along with questioning stories -- if they even warrant one at all. Meanwhile, Democratic candidate for Senate Elizabeth Warren has claimed to be part Cherokee Indian because she has high cheekbones, and no one seems to care. Let me repeat: Girl lied about her heritage, and the media didn’t care. 

The double standard for Conservatives and Liberals has gotten so bad that only willfully ignorant people still try to espouse an unbiased media. No wonder The New York Times and other liberal newspapers are losing subscriptions.

Clint Eastwood is right. As he said in his speech Thursday night that the RNC, “It may be time for somebody else to come along and solve the problem.”
