I could swear a blue-ribbon hog just went soaring past my window, because a few minutes ago at the Republican National Convention, Mitt Romney said something I actually agreed with! Granted, somebody else wrote it and put it up on the teleprompter for him to read, but at least he said these words out loud (regarding his wife Ann Romney and the years she spent raising their children):
"I knew that her job as a mom was harder than mine and I knew without question that her job as a mom was more important than mine."
So Romney got one thing right. Thanks for the condescending pat on the forehead, man. Good job, mommies! You work hard! I'm still not fooled. You might be a husband who knows how to give your wife credit when thousands of people are watching, but you have no idea what it's like to be a working mother in America today. And tonight, you gave yourself away.
Especially when you told us all about OUR struggles. About how WE couldn't find jobs or sell our homes or pay our debts.
"What could you do?" asked Romney. "What could you do but work harder ... hug your kids for longer ... spend a little more time praying."
He was asking, you realize, because he really DOESN'T KNOW what we did. Did we work harder, hug our kids longer and spend more time praying? Sure. Sure, we did -- and we do -- those things. But we also burn ourselves working 24/7 and give ourselves stress-induced ulcers and yell at our kids because we're so tense and overworked and worried about how we're going to pay the bills and we also shake our fists at the sky and decide there can't possibly BE anyone to pray to when the world is this fucked up.
Oh well. At least Mitt Romney still has a smile on HIS face.
Do you think Mitt Romney really knows or cares what it's like to be a working mom in America?

This is getting old. You talk about civility, and you guys have done nothing but tear down the Romneys with such ugliness that your true bitchiness is showing. They made a decision that she was going to stay at home and raise their children. Many people do that. My manager did that and he is as liberal as it comes. Me thinks that you guys are so jealous that your only response is to be catty and bitchy to a woman that fights MS, fought breast cancer and did it with so much grace.
And Obama does know this? You are so blinded by your bias and hatred, Jacqueline, that your arguments don't even make sense anymore. Go back to posting about your past lives. Those were actually interesting and didn't make me roll my eyes at you in disgust!
Floridamom, (Assuming that you were implying sarcasm) I feel the need to remind you that when Mr. Clinton left office we were in a surplus, and when Mr. Bush left office the economy was in the craphole. I don't think anyone should be blaming the Presdient (or former Presidents) for their struggles. What about being responsible for your own financial decisions?
Okgirl, even though I'm a college student and not a parents, I do believe that President Obama does care about what it's like to be a working mom. He comes off as more compassionate. Without the middle class, America will become a third-world country. Mr. Romney, in my opinion, doesn't seem to be concerned with saving the middle class. (And I pay attention to the facts of BOTH candidates)
Let me just tell you, I WISH I could stay home with my kids. I am happy that Ann Romney could do that, and I don't begrudge her at all. Nor do I begrudge my older sister who also picked a mate that provides on a level such that she can focus on raising her kids.
Honestly? I like working but if I had picked a more successful mate I wouldn't mind staying at home.
Hockeymom, I believe that you're wrong and misinformed. I'm a college student currently taking both an American History and American Government classes; therefore, I discuss factual history and politics 4 days a weeks. http://www.politifact.com/new-jersey/statements/2012/jun/08/bill-clinton/bill-clinton-touts-fiscal-record-president-during-/ (He was given a "Mostly True" rating because he said $600 billion of the nat'l debt was paid when it really somewhere around $400 billion.)
Yes, I am suggesting that some people who are struggling should also blame themselves. Buying McMansions, a tricked-out Tahoe or Escalade, taking extravegent vacations to try to impress your neighbors, having no college funding for your 3-4 kids, and little to no savings. How is that anyone's fault but their own? It happened in my neighborhood all too often which significantly depreciated my area's housing market... I'm positive no one is choosing unemployent or high anything prices.
In 2010, our Congressmen had a 12% approval rating but a 93% re-election rating. How many people do you know vote for Congress? Most I know that even vote only vote in Presidential elections. Voting helps!
Again, in my opinion, Mr. Romney doesn't seem concerned with saving the middle class and without the middle class any immigrants might as well go back home.
Pinkmani, I feel the need to remind you that Clinton shares most of the blame for our current financial crisis as his administration repealed Glass-Steagall which ultimately resulted in the "too big to fail" banks and the housing bubble. He just got out before it blew. Bush certainly made it worse, as did Obama. I do wish both sides would stop trying to placate us moms and stab each other, and instead ocus on what the heck they are going to do to get us out ot this mess. Neither has won my vote.
Here is a slogan for you: Mitt is full of sh*t!
