Republicans May Talk About the 'American Dream' But They Don't Know What It Means (VIDEO)

Politicians have always loved talking about The American Dream. How much we deserve it, how much we should fight for it, how much more likely we are to get it if THEY are in office.

Well, this year's Republican National Convention is no different. That phrase has popped up in speech after speech. Well, it used to mean pretty much the same thing to all Americans -- a century ago! Today, interests are so divided and needs are so diverse, it's impossible to find consensus on the subject. So I think politicians should just stop using it until they ask everyday citizens (rich and poor) what it means to them.

If they want a clue, I suggest they start here with this eye-opening CafeMom Studios video. Our RNC correspondent Lindsay Ferrier asked regular woman about hopes and dreams for their families and it's exactly what these politicians need to hear.

Watch moms weigh in here:

Do you think there is really still an American Dream? If so, what's yours?

Guess the Republican Convention is a success. I was expecting one of the usual liberal bloggers to write the articled titled "Condaliza Rice's Speech Proves She Is A Racist Who Hates Women"...

Other posters are correct! The more ridiculous the articles get on this site, the better the Republicans are doing!

What's my 'American Dream?' Obama being a one-term president.

The diversity is the whole point of "The American Dream"! This country has always allowed people to strive to better themselves on their own terms. What is so hard to understand about that? I think the author is confused about this subject. Maybe she should ask one of the Kardashians their opinion! True believers in the tenet of the foundation this country was based on know that just following along like a sheep to slaughter is not fulfilling that tenet! It seems being and independent free-thinker is something frowned upon my the liberals!

The American Dream is not going to be the same for everyone. I'm in college now, and my American Dream is to get married, become a Speech Pathologist, own a decent home, have no debt, take annual vacations, raise one child, and retire at 65 with my husband with $1.5 milion in the bank.

We also have to realize a few things: 1) many of the bloggers are simply stay-at-home moms who have time to write biased articles 2) While it does matter who the President is, the Congressmen are also important! Most people don't vote for Congress. In 2010, they had a 12% approval rating and a 93% re-election rating. Sounds weird to me!

I'm an independent voter and my American Dream is to be able to work a job I love and not have to keep paying higher taxes for the people that don't want to get off their butts and work. I know unemployment is a problem, but taxing me more is just making me bitter about being an American. I worked hard to get where I am and shouldn't be penalized for it. I'm in the country legally, I work for my living, I pay my taxes and I vote. I've paid cash into the Social Security system since I started working at the age of 16 and I damn well expect it to be there when I retire. Maybe politicians should just earn income while they are actually in office and have to pay taxes on that income. Then maybe we wouldn't have the problems we have. Talk about a group that thinks they are entitled to their salary for the rest of their lives while the rest of have to work more years to take care of ourselves.

This article serves to illustrate the reason I don't read CafeMom and the dribble it calls "reporting"; and I'm even a staunch liberal. Why couldn't the woman who reported in the video have written this blog? She was great! The blog is almost completely irrelevant to the video itself. This isn't the only article/blog written in this style through CafeMom. I get that this is the internet and everyone is entitled to their opinions but perhaps you should be a bit pickier about who you endorse on your website. Basic grammar, sentence structure, and fact checking skills are fairly important for credibility, not to mention actually watching the video you are writing about!!!

The Gop is talking about their own faith in themselves? Does a mormon and a catholic, believe in Jesus Christ? *Galatians 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. (What happened to the pride of life?) *Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. *1st Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. (Zechariah 12:10) *John 11:48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. *Moses, Noah, Lot, Joseph, all found grace*

Why the title? Why the CRAP CAFEMOM? Getting Scared? It seems to be the women you spoke to know EXACTLY what their dream is.

Condi Rice, Mia Love and Susana Martinez not only know the American Dream - They LIVE the American Dream.   The only people confused about what "American Dream" is the Obama worshippers (i.e. CM bloggers)

Caera Caera

Seriously? I think those of us who know who built what have a better handle on the American Dream than those of us who don't. Scary to think that it's the current "leader" is one of those who don't.
