Politicians have always loved talking about The American Dream. How much we deserve it, how much we should fight for it, how much more likely we are to get it if THEY are in office.
Well, this year's Republican National Convention is no different. That phrase has popped up in speech after speech. Well, it used to mean pretty much the same thing to all Americans -- a century ago! Today, interests are so divided and needs are so diverse, it's impossible to find consensus on the subject. So I think politicians should just stop using it until they ask everyday citizens (rich and poor) what it means to them.
If they want a clue, I suggest they start here with this eye-opening CafeMom Studios video. Our RNC correspondent Lindsay Ferrier asked regular woman about hopes and dreams for their families and it's exactly what these politicians need to hear.
Watch moms weigh in here:
Do you think there is really still an American Dream? If so, what's yours?

Other posters are correct! The more ridiculous the articles get on this site, the better the Republicans are doing!
The American Dream is not going to be the same for everyone. I'm in college now, and my American Dream is to get married, become a Speech Pathologist, own a decent home, have no debt, take annual vacations, raise one child, and retire at 65 with my husband with $1.5 milion in the bank.
We also have to realize a few things: 1) many of the bloggers are simply stay-at-home moms who have time to write biased articles 2) While it does matter who the President is, the Congressmen are also important! Most people don't vote for Congress. In 2010, they had a 12% approval rating and a 93% re-election rating. Sounds weird to me!
This article serves to illustrate the reason I don't read CafeMom and the dribble it calls "reporting"; and I'm even a staunch liberal. Why couldn't the woman who reported in the video have written this blog? She was great! The blog is almost completely irrelevant to the video itself. This isn't the only article/blog written in this style through CafeMom. I get that this is the internet and everyone is entitled to their opinions but perhaps you should be a bit pickier about who you endorse on your website. Basic grammar, sentence structure, and fact checking skills are fairly important for credibility, not to mention actually watching the video you are writing about!!!
Why the title? Why the CRAP CAFEMOM? Getting Scared? It seems to be the women you spoke to know EXACTLY what their dream is.
Condi Rice, Mia Love and Susana Martinez not only know the American Dream - They LIVE the American Dream. The only people confused about what "American Dream" is the Obama worshippers (i.e. CM bloggers)
Seriously? I think those of us who know who built what have a better handle on the American Dream than those of us who don't. Scary to think that it's the current "leader" is one of those who don't.
