Question: when is it OK for a parent to involve her child in illegal activities? Possible answer: when that parent is a mother trying to protect her son from a father who is accused of raping him. That's why a mom named Georgia Dunn says she took off as a fugitive from justice with her 9-year-old son in tow.
And she's not the only one. The boy's pediatrician first alleged the boy was being abused by his dad back in 2008, and an 11-person state investigative team backed him up. But Circuit Court Judge Ross Hicks decided the proper course of action back then was to yank Dunn's custody and give it to ex-husband William Cone.
That would be hard enough for any mom, but let's fast forward to 2012.
New allegations that Cone was sexually abusing his son sprung up this summer, and the FBI took up the investigation. FBI investigators accompanied Dunn to the court to ask Judge Hicks to OK an order of protection to keep the boy from his dad. And once again, Hicks sided with the dad.
I think you can tell where this is headed. In fact, I know what I would do ... exactly what Georgia Dunn did.
She took off. She fully admits it. In fact, she says the only reason she's come back is because Cone has been arrested and charged with child rape. He's finally behind bars, and her son is safe.
Only now Georgia is facing felony charges herself because, of course, running away was a crime. She defied a court order. But is there anyone in America who can really blame her? The courts failed this child. Someone had to protect him, and the only one left was his mother.
On the whole, I'm not one to support taking the law into your own hands. It's created too many problems for too many people.
We do have a justice system for a reason in this country. Unfortunately, it seems like when it fails, it fails in catastrophic ways, and average citizens are left to pick up the broken pieces.
Sure, Cone hasn't been proven guilty in a court of law of sexually abusing his child, but this isn't the kind of charge you pussyfoot around. You act immediately in the best interests of the child, and you put as much distance between them and their potential abuser as you can. It sounds like Georgia Dunn did just that.

I agree. I feel the judge should be held accountable for the new allegations that came up after he awarded that sick man custody. I think that he should be as guilty as the father (if found that way by the courts). Let her have him! Don't prosecute her. All she did was protect her child.
The judge should have his ass thrown in jail especially if this man is convicted. Please let us know a website where we can contribute to this woman having the most bad ass lawyer in the world because she should walk. I am so sick of these judges letting sexual offenders walk! One other point, I also think the judge should have to pay for that little boys therapy because he will need a lot.
Sounds to me like the judge is just like the execs at Penn State that let Sandusky keep doing whatever he wanted all those years. The investigation proved that they knew what was going on and did nothing to stop it. This horrible excuse for a judge is just like them.
WTF. Did this father have something going on with the judge like blackmail??? Is this judge doing child porn and just hasnt been caught yet???
I dont think the charges will stick. If anything they should be dropped or lessened.
