If you were watching HLN's "Evening Express" last night, you may have caught part one of our Moms Matter Swing State Road Trip on the show.
If you missed it, don't worry! We've got the video for you here. Click through to see what the moms of Youngstown, Ohio have to say about the upcoming election, then tell us what you think in the comments.
Youngstown, Ohio was an interesting first stop for our road trip. The town has been experiencing hard times for decades (several of these moms grew up in Youngstown and had fathers who were laid off when they were kids), but lately, the town is seeing a turnaround. The unemployment rate is down and demand for steel and cars is up. Residents are back at work and the city is starting to show signs of revitalization.
There's a sense of cautious optimism in Youngstown that many Americans are starting to feel as the country slowly rebounds from the recent recession. There's deep concern over which candidate will do the best job as president over the next four years. And there's worry that the wrong choice could be devastating to our nation.
Ohio is an important swing state for the candidates and both are working hard to win it. It's particularly crucial for Mitt Romney -- no Republican has ever won the presidency without winning Ohio. Both candidates are spending quite a bit of money on advertising there and they're both making plenty of campaign stops in the Buckeye State.
Their efforts seem to be paying off -- the moms we talked to in Youngstown were split down the middle when it came to which candidate would get their vote in November. If they're any indication, then Ohio could swing either way.
What do you think of these Youngstown moms? Can you identify with their opinions?
And be sure and tune in to "Evening Express" tonight on HLN for part two of our road trip. We'll be heading to Reading, Pennsylvania -- the poorest city in America.
