Victim in Horrifying 'Body Parts' Case Identified: She Was a Single Mom

by Adriana Velez on August 21, 2012 at 2:19 PM

guang hua liuThe mysterious head, hands, and foot of a woman found outside Toronto last week have been identified: Police are confident that they belong to single mother Guang Hua Liu. The 41-year-old had one grown child and two younger children who live with their father. She owned a licensed spa. She was last seen alive on August 10.

More pieces of Guang's body were found bout 50 kilometers away from the others over the weekend: An arm and two calves. Police are searching her home and former business and checking surveillance video from the area for clues. Guang's ex is not considered a person of interest yet.

I'm relieved that police have identified the victim. But the more details we learn about this story the more gruesome the story gets.

It's chilling to know that Guang was a single mother. If her children lived with their father she may have lived alone, which would make her vulnerable. She was a business owner, so maybe she was robbed? But why was her body chopped up? It's just such a sick thing to do. As if killing he weren't bad enough, someone cut her body into pieces.

I hate to think of what Guang's children must be going through now. Imagine this happening to your mother! Even if they didn't live with her, they still probably loved her and cared about her. And when something this horrific happens it can't help but totally destroy the family's sense of security. I feel terribly for those kids.

As heartbreaking as it is to find out who the victim of this shocking crime was, at least police are that much closer to finding out who is responsible for her death. That's probably going to be even more difficult than identifying the body. But in the meantime, I hope someone is looking out for her kids and making sure they get the support they need right now.

Do you think police will ever find the person responsible for Guang's death?

Firstly as my psychologist husband would say the father only ever has primary custody if there is something seriously wrong with the mother. And since her young children live with there father I would stand by he probably has full custody. Secondly, why does her being a single mother make this more tragic? I mean she is obviously not a single mother as the children don't live with her. Its just her. Her being a mother has no bearing on this and does not make it more tragic.

Where are all the Canadians ranting about how this could "only happen in the US"?

Lilac, this is 2012. Many fathers have primary and/or full custody of their children, and the mothers are just fine. Sometimes its because the mothers choose to pursue careers that keep them traveling or working long hours. Sometimes, that's just what a couple decides is best for the kids during their divorce. Fathers are just as capable of raising great kids as moms are-

I do agree with you though that its absurd to say that the fact that the victim is a single mother makes this horrible crime more tragic...
Her marital status and whether she's produced offspring have nothing to do with the fear and horror she must have suffered at the hands of her murderer.
Victims come in all ages, colors, shapes, sizes, and genders. And they all deserve to be treated equally, and to receive justice for the crimes committed against them-

It is unfortunate that she had to be cut up..now she will not be able to have an open casket..her children will not be able to see her body one last time..to touch her face or kiss her hand or cheek...it wont happen all because some sick fuck had to fulfill their "fantasy" or whatever these fucks think!!!

Lilac, your husband is a sexist prick, and needs to check into some continuing education. Perhaps you could do that for him while he's out being a man, Sweetcheeks?

I can see how it would make it a bit more tragic because you have young victims who have to live without their mother forever. Either way why argue about that point? Seriously. It's tragic. I'm not sure there are really varying degrees. It's just a matter of perspective I guess? If she owned a salon it is very likely that she does work many hours and couldn't be home to take custody of her children.

Long may she rest unsundered. Given the ghastly ball-dropping them Canadians have done on even worse cases, such as Picton the serial killing pig farmer, combined with their PATHETIC prison terms [a standard 25 years WITH!!!! parole no matter how many dead victims], I'm not very hopeful that WHATever did this will be caught soon. Not that we don't have our own horrendous unsolved cases as well, but letting a male Terran humanoid biped get away with "sleepwalking" as a "defense" to killing its wife doesn't inspire much confidence. But to quote The Golden Man from 45 years ago, "Nothing would please me more" than, wimpy 'justice' notwithstanding, for the Ontarians to bring this thing down. Because while the prospect of a mere 25 years with parole hardly counts as Due Justice, some beats none, and happily madness, rape, disease and murder can be this thing's lot long before some parole board would get an opportunity to reinflict it on polite society.
