Dating back probably to George Washington's time, presidents of the U.S. have hung out with American gliteratti -- be that the top businessmen or top entertainers. But for some reason, President Obama and George Clooney have had to keep their bromance on the DL. Until now.
The prez reportedly "goes public" with their friendship in an interview airing tonight on Entertainment Tonight, admitting that he got to know Clooney through their joint work on Sudan and Darfur when Obama was in the U.S. Senate. And FLOTUS Michelle Obama isn't being so shy about her affection for the movie star either, admitting, "He's cute, too." Aww! Still, President Obama feels compelled to note how he appreciates that Clooney is "sensitive to the fact that, you know, if he's around a lot, then somehow it'll be tagged as 'Obama hanging out with Hollywood stars.'" Laaaame.
Unfortunately, that is what would happen and what WILL happen as a result of Obama admitting that the two hang out. What a bummer.
It's not as if Clooney is your everyday "Hollywood star." Like Angelina Jolie and Ben Affleck, the guy's highly, personally invested in international crises. He's not doing what he can to support the president's re-election so that he or the major movie studios out will get some kind of snazzy tax break. He just wants the man in the White House to be on the same page regarding humanitarian causes. How scandalous!
Call me crazy, but I just don't see the harm in that. Not to mention that it's far less toxic a relationship than the ones Republicans notoriously have with Wall Streeters/1 percenters who are strictly and unabashedly invested in their own wealth and prosperity.
So, more power to Obama for acknowledging his low-key friendship with George. When voters debate whether or not to re-elect the president, it's clear that his productive bromance is definitely more pro than con.
How do you feel about Obama and Clooney's friendship?

Hmmm, who would I rather have on my side? The humanitarian George Clooney or:
Ted "poopy pants" Nugent
Donald "The Birther" Trump
that guy from Megadumb
or
Hank Williams the Lesser?
Wow, that is a question that's REALLY EASY to answer!
Ingratiating himself with useless celebrities is probably the thing that Obama has done best out of every President, so he has that to be proud of. Perhaps he will have a Hollywood career waiting for him when Americans oust him from office.
Fleurdelys, may I remind you that the GOP ran a former Hollywood actor for President? President Ronald Reagan served from 1981-1989. Somehow, I doubt he broke off the friendships he made in Hollywood during that time.
Well, it makes sense that our first celebrity president, who does little more than acts like he knows what he's doing, would find friendship with people who appreciate a well-played charade.
You took the words out of my keyboard Hockeymom. The left loves to forget that little fact. I am offended that he keeps accussing Romney of being out of touch because of all of his rich friends while Obama's rich friends throw him fundraisers. I just went to our county fair and was shocked by what the Democrats had out. Not only was it a building covered in flyers with lies, it was all about hate with no plan. So here is my question to the left commenters on here, and I'm not trying to start drama I really want to know. What is Obama's plan for the future that you so believe in? All the economist agree that even if we tax the top one percent half of what they earn it wont be enough to fix the deficit, so what is it you believe he will do, and why do you believe he will do it?
They're just weird..................
@rightside and Hockeymom -- right on! And Todd -- Reagan being a celebrity before President is quite different than being President and then a celebrity. It is clear to anyone with eyes that Obama is using his position of power to hob nob with movie stars. Newsflash - he is not one of them. He is President of the United States. He should spend more time fundraising and talking with the middle class people he claims to want to help so much instead of kissing George Clooney's ass for a couple million dollars. He's a hypocrite. And Dems say Romney is out of touch with reality? .... Jeez.
