"Why are you here supporting Chick-fil-A?" A woman asked people this question at a Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day event. The result is this video. As you can see from her commentary she was not impressed with most of the responses. She goes as far as calling the protesters "rednecks." And that's too bad. "This video was not intended as hard-hitting journalism. It was just something funny for my friends..."
She admits she shouldn't have resorted to name calling and should have just let people's comments speak for themselves. I agree. I found a lot of the supporters' own words disturbing enough on their own. But then -- I can also see how another person might watch this video and pretty much agree with the whole thing. Check out the video and see what you think. It's a little hard to hear at times so it might be helpful to turn on the captions.
Okay, wow. That one about the Constitution is a doozy. I would like to personally invite every person with strong opinions about our Constitution to actually find a copy and read it in its entirety. You may be surprised to find out what's not there!
As for whether or not Jesus had anything to say about same-sex marriage, I'll leave it up to the Bible scholars. Thousands of books have been written about what the Bible actually says, what the cultural context was, what the modern-day implications are... we'll never get everyone to agree.
But are these people really ignorant and stupid? I have to admit, I'm kind of shaking my head over the weak reasoning skills, paranoia, and false "facts" coming from some of these supporters. I still think it's wrong to call them names. But it's a test of my compassion to witness and forgive.
What do you think about the reasons these people give for supporting Chick-fil-A and opposing same-sex marriage?

The reason I support Chik-Fil-A is this everyone preaches about how they have the First Amendment Freedom of Speech. But the second someone states their opinion and their opinion isn't what people support. For example "In my opinion I don't think Obama has done anything good for this country." They are immediately demonized and called racist sexist bigot everything under the sun.
Chick-fil-A has the right to spend their money the way they see fit. I have the right to spend my money the way I see fit. I do not go to Chick-fil-A because I think they are overpriced.
And we know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this video was NOT edited in ANY WAY, to reflect the camera woman's personal views, right?
We know, absolutely, that she didn't talk to a single person who said "Im here because I believe that those mayors are wrong when they say that nobody will visit their restaurants and this business will be bad for my city", right?
There have been plenty of videos made like this about protests from the other side, as well. I've seen them from OWS gatherings... "I'm here because I was standing there and someone offered me a hundred bucks to come down", "I'm here to get Obama's money!" "I don't have to worry about paying my bills or pay for gas 'cause Obama's gonna give me money!!" and other ridiculous views. You find them on BOTH sides of the aisle.
But way for this girl to showcase her OWN ignorance and intolerance by trying to make these people look stupid, and for calling them "Rednecks". Also love how the song "Born This Way" is intended to promote tolerance, and she's using it as a weapon for her own ignorance.
why does anyone really care what chick fil a belives or supports? They can have their own opinion. I for one support gay marraiage and I will not stop eating chick fil a...they make a darn good chicken sandwich! Bigger fish to fry people!
Jesus said he loved all, all are right to live with him in heaven if they believe. so ha close minded people.
Going to look very stupid in a few years like those that protested interracial marriage. Or women's rights.... Is it talky so hard to accept we are ask equal and entitled to equal rights? What if your child ends up being gay?
Chick fil a will never get another dollar from me.
that girl that made the comment about the Constitution needs to go back to history class and read it again...
Too true, navywife. And that makes me very sad. In the First Amendment there is a provision for the separation of church and state to prevent the theocratic tendencies they saw in the governments of that era.
Wonder how many people in line were divorced? According to Cathy that was not a "traditional marriage " either... the thing that bothers me... alllllllll through the bible things are described as an "abomination" wearing the same clothes as a man. eating shellfish, and yes laying with a man as a women, I think there is something in there about fornication without contract of matrimony too... " Abomination" the same word used to describe them allllllll equallllllly... and yet religion can evolve in thinking as I watch people who were more than likely divorced standing in line .. I know they were wearing mens garments..as well as inmodest... some proballllllly even had had sex outside of marriage...annnnnnd yet they can stand there and validate hate Validate the bully who makes the gay teens life miserable at school... Validate the parent who threw the gay teen out on the street...Validate it all Because Abomination in not a label that they too can wear? Think Again.
