Guy With Baggy Pants Deserved to Get Booted From His Flight

by Ericka Sóuter on August 3, 2012 at 6:22 PM

pants lowWho knew a fashion statement could get you booted from a flight? Spirit Airlines kicked off a passenger at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport who was wearing baggy pants.

The guy was sporting his trousers "excessively low" and when he was asked to pull them up, he got "verbally abusive," threatening flight attendants and was forced to deplane when police arrived.

Extreme? Maybe. I am sure the man's bad attitude didn't help him out at all. But I for one applaud Spirit Airlines for even asking him to pull up his pants. I don't know about you, but it drives me crazy when I see guys wearing their pants so low, you can see their underwear.

I just don't get it. It's not stylish. It's not cute. It's ridiculous and offensive. I know I'm not alone. Remember the surprise hit "Pants on the Ground" from American Idol contestant General Larry Platt. It made him more memorable than half the winners that have come out of that show. That's because his anthem asking men to pull their damn pants  up was something millions could relate too.

This isn't the first incident of an airline trying to impose a dress code of some sort. Last summer, a young man was removed from a  U.S. Airways flight for wearing his pants so low, you could see all of his undies.

Theses airlines are absolutely in their. Buying a ticket doesn't mean you can dress and behave any way you want. Why not just pull up your pants? Is it that difficult to dress like a grown-up? Just like eateries that have those "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service" signs, airlines should be able to impose rules too. In fact, I wish more businesses would ban this awful fad. Here's the perfect slogan: "If we can see your underwear -- please keep walking."

Do you think the airline had a right to kick this man off the flight?

Yes, I think they should be allowed to imppose dress rules. I wonder if all those guys that wear their pants at half mast realize where this came from?? In prison if they were agreeable to being someones "girlfriend" they would wear their pants hanging low.

I loathe sagging. With a passion. People aren't allowed to sag in my home.
That being said, if a girl gets kicked off a flight for a too tight shirt, or too short skirt, its some travesty. Everyone rallies together to stand up for her right to dress how she wants.
Its discriminatory for women to think men should be held to different standards.
Maybe it was his attitude that got him booted, but I think its wrong to boot ANYONE from a flight who isn't wearing racial/sexual/vulgar slur type clothing.
Flights aren't a 5star resturant. They're dirty, smelly, and packed full of dirty, smelly people. They're just pants. He shouldn't have been booted for the pants alone.

He didn't actually get kicked off for the droopy drawers. It was because when "he was asked to pull them up, he got "verbally abusive," threatening flight attendants and was forced to deplane when police arrived."

Had he not been a nut job, he could have stayed on the plane.

Yes I think that they should ban sagging every where. It's disgusting, makes ya look thuggish and idiotic.

Who cares if he looked "thuggish and idiotic", they shouldn't have said anything about it in the first place. Flight attendants aren't the fashion police. It has no bearing on the flight itself.
And good point 4mutts about the double-standard re: people's support for women on this issue.

Sagging pants do not hurt anyone (except maybe the wearer, because it's got to mess up their back walking crazy to keep their pants from falling down).  It is not offensive or vulgar.  It would not put the flight in jeopardy.  There is no reason to prevent someone from sitting down on a plane simply because their pants are too low.  I can understand that he got heated with the flight staff, but IMO, his pants shouldn't have been brought up in the first place.

Yes they should have thrown him off for saggy pants.  Next time they should also ask the person wearing hot pink stretch pants to leave.  Also the guy wearing the v- neck sweater.  Don't forget about the toddler just wearing a diaper and shirt.  And please don't forget the woman who is wearing spaghetti strap shirt and her dingy bra straps are showing.  Next time I should ask the flight attendant to leave the plane because her breath stinks.  I could go on.

Saggy pants are a hazard on the flight should there be trouble.  When the pants do not fit properly, you run the risk of tripping on them in an emergency when you try to move quickly.  If there is an emergency on the flight and you fall over because your pants are too low, you run the risk of hurting not only yourself, but others on the flight who cannot get past you.
