Chick-fil-A, the tasty and delicious fast food chain famous for its Christian values, has come under attack once again for being anti-gay. It’s no secret that the company operates with biblical influence -- heck, it even closes up shop on Sundays to observe the Sabbath.
In an interview with the Baptist Press on Monday, company President Dan Cathy reasserted the family-values culture the company tries to embody. He said:
We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.
Oh my gosh, alert the presses that there is a company that espouses family values! How dare they, as a private company, stand up for their beliefs? I mean, what has this county come to? How dare they stay married to their first wives!
Side note: Do you know who else believes that marriage is between one man and one woman? Barack Obama, circa 2011.
People need to take a chill pill. If I boycotted every restaurant, clothing line, and entertainment provider, whose political ideology I disagreed with, I’d be hungry, naked, and bored. How does one’s stance on gay marriage affect chicken sandwiches and waffle fries? It doesn’t.
Chick-fil-A has gotten some seriously undeserved feedback for simply stating that they’re supportive of traditional marriage. Who cares? What does that have to do with chicken? Are they refusing to serve people based on their sexual orientation or their stance on gay marriage? Maybe that would be a story worth reporting.
Chicago Alderman Joe Moreno is even threatening to block the restaurant chain from opening a second store in the “increasingly trendy” Northwest Side ward. Why does Mr. Moreno want to deprive his constituents of flaky biscuits? Furthermore, is he going to go around to every business in his district and ask if they support gay marriage, and shut them down if they don’t? Yeah, that’ll be good for the economy.
This whole thing is silly. This is a private company, and the personal views of Dan Cathy have nothing to do with the product they provide or the service they offer. They’re not refusing to serve anyone based on their sexual orientation, race, or gender.
Give Chick-fil-A a break, and as the cows say: “Eat Mor Chikin.”

I don't get what is so confusing.
They don't want GLBT people to have the same rights as straight people. That is true and indisputable, yes? They get tons of money from customers, which they can use to support organizations that share this viewpoint, yes? So not wanting to KNOWINGLY add my money into the funnel of support to organizations I find to be an affront to human rights makes 100% total sense to me.
Like 8 billion people already said, if this were 100 years ago and they were only for "traditional marriage" that does not include bi-racial coupling, we, with our 2012 brains, would be disgusted.
Same thing.
And in 2112, Internet commenters are going to be discussing their embarassing anti-gay great-grandmas and how they just didn't know any better back then, but thank God we are a progressive society.
That certainly sounds grotesquely un-Constitutional and un-American.
is what I was trying to understand....who the hell cares if a restaurant is anti same sex marriage..... they sell food not politics!
"If I boycotted every restaurant, clothing line, and entertainment provider, whose political ideology I disagreed with, I’d be hungry, naked, and bored" I just stole this, love it!
and all this arguing about this issue just marked only one point: you are free to say what ever you want as long is the most popular thing to say, if not you're scrued, you and your freedom
Hey "tiny_mama", although she did use the wrong "there" and it is generally "i before e", in this particular case the word their is an exception to the rule. Simply using the "check spelling feature that is provided here will quickly prove my case ;) If you're going to be the grammar police, at least do it correctly. And seriously? That was the most intelligent contribution to this online discussion that you could come up with? Disappointing....
I personally think that Chic- fi-let should have the same right to freedom of speech with no repercussions that everyone else should have. Chicago Alderman Joe Moreno's idea of refusing them the right to open a restaurant in a certain location based soley on their beliefs is both discrimination, and most likely illegal.
I have absolutely nothing against gays. But, considering the disgusting political assaults, and hate/slander campaigns the so called "LGBT" groups have launched, for the sole purpose of inflicting damage, on of all groups, the Boy Scouts of America, I would be delighted to patronize a business knowing that some of the profits are going to fight back against these groups.
Of course Chik-Fil-A has the right to freedom of speech and the right to support causes that they believe in, but they also have the right not to be all butt-hurt when people choose to vote with their dollars and eat somewhere else. Somewhere that doesn't clash with their own personal values. And saying that Chik-Fil-A is not anti-gay is like saying that you, Jenny Erikson, are not anti-liberal. It's simply a flat-out lie.
