For one 10-year-old girl, a trip to the corner store almost turned tragic. While walking down the street with her 2-year-old brother, a man tried to kidnap her off a street in South Philadelphia. Amazingly, the whole horrifying crime was caught on surveillance cameras.
The video shows the man pull his car to the side of the road, wait for the kids walking hand-in-hand to pass by, then jump out of the car to sneak up behind them. He grabs the little girl, muzzles her mouth with his hand, and tries to run off with her, but she bit and kicked him, defensive moves her father says she learned from watching Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Police say he was also scared off by her brother's startled reaction. "Ultimately, with the screams from this little boy and by her account [the victim] says the child literally screams louder than anything she's ever heard before, he literally interrupts this assault," said Captain John Darby. The suspect is still on the run, but thanks to the cameras, they have a good description of the man and his car.

We hear about children being snatched all the time. Usually, as we listen to the police describe what they think happened, we may try to piece together a picture of the crime in our mind. But to see it actually unfold right before your eyes is truly terrifying.

Everybody teach your kids well... If anyone EVER grabs you, thrash and kick, scream your head off, drop to the ground like a stone. If they cover your mouth with their hand, bite them. I have been teaching my son this since he was three years old. You don't have to scare them with it, but tell them and tell them often so they know what to do. No need to watch SVU if the parents drill this into them.
I taught my kids what to do if something like that were to happen to them, I just do not intentionally put my kids in a situation where they might need to use that knowledge. Besides what good is any of that knowledge going to do when it doesnt work and there is no mommy or daddy there to hear their screams and stop it from happening. Or what if mommy and daddy hear the screams too late and by the time they get off their asses and get outside to see what is going on their child is being driven off by a kidnapper? I think that children should be taught the things they need to be taught to protect themselves if they need to but that doesnt always work. Say your kid is outside playing and you justify it by saying i taught them what to do if some one was to kidnap them and it happens any way because you were not there to save them, im sure your going to know that if you had been there watching them they would not only not had to try to defend themselves but they would not have been taken in the first place. I am pretty sure kidnappers do not troll around looking for kids to steal that are being watched by their parents. They look for children that are alone and vulnerable. They dont say "oh I'm going to take that little girl that is outside all by herself," " but wait I bet that kids parents taught them how to defend themselves against a guy like me trying to steal them". Then move on and look for some one else to steal because they look like they were taught what to do
Everybody is making comments to how a 10 year old is watching that show and being outside alone... they need to chill out. You obviously don't know the details, and if you are so worried about them, then find them out before you complain!! I watched law and order and the such like shows ALL growing up. I loved to see if i could solve the mystery before the detectives did, and I used to. It was a passion of mine. I am a Godly woman, now. So even though I will most likely not let my children watch the shows I did growing up )because I wasn't a christian then), It doesn't mean a child will be ruined if they do watch a show. Even though it seems the parents aren't there, they could be closer than you think. We just don't know from this article.
This is awful and thank God that guy got spooked and the little girl was okay but I'm with the others.. WHERE THE HELL WAS THE PARENTS?! I have a 10yr old and I would never let him walk around alone or with a toddler on what looked like a very public street. Let this be a lesson that parents should always be with their children and when unable should designate a responsible person to be or at least have the kids walking in a large group (like walking to school) this is a situation that could've been 100x worse. I hope that the girl and her baby brother get past this and they catch that guy but also hope that the parents learned a VERY vauable lesson!
In addition, watching shows isn't going to do crap and we as a society have enough issues with people reying on the tv to teach our kids! I think a basic safety lesson would suffice and the fact is that the children should not have been unattended like that. It's pretty pathetic when parents are too lazy to go sit outside with their kids or take a walk with them. Call me overprotective but I have no problem reading a book outside while my kids are bike riding on my street or hell go play with your kids.. heaven forbid you actually spend time with your kids now-a-days. And also as far as the safety training, unless your child does martial arts or has taken a self defense class it is more than likely that the abductor is going to be too strong and overpower the child and screaming is not always effective. So getting your kids self defense training (which a lot of police dept.s offer) is honestly the best bet.
Parents need to recognize there is a war against our kids right now, and children canNOT be allowed to roam like this. The world is no longer safe for our babies, as long as punishments for the creeps wrecking children's innocence and taking their lives are so light. Physical castration and lopping off offending hands would go a long way in deterring these evil assholes.
OMG im just chilled and sick to see that but Im so glad the kids are safe! GOD please dont ever ever ever let those parents let their children out like that alone!! Next time they might not be so lucky!
It's awesome, but scary as hell.
