Woman's Rapists Recruited on Craigslist ... by Her Own Husband!

by Ericka Sóuter on July 18, 2012 at 1:23 PM

crime sceneIn two days, two different men tried to sexually assault the same woman in her home. Shockingly, police say the reason is because her husband put an ad on Craigslist seeking someone to rape her

The Idaho man admitted to posting the ad, pretending to be his wife asking for men to forcibly attack her because it was a fantasy of hers. The attacker was told to "force his way inside and rape the woman there and not stop no matter how much she resisted."

In the first frightening attempt, the guy showed up at her door in middle of the night. When she opened it, he asked her name and as soon as she responded, he said, "I'm here for you," before barging in. He then chased her through the house until she got her hands on the 9mm handgun she kept in the bedroom. They struggled over it, firing shots before he fled. The woman's husband returned home from work a half hour after the attack and they called the police. No one suspected him at first.

The next day, a second creep busted into her home, but this time she was able to hold him at gunpoint until the cops arrived. He told them he was simply responding to an ad in the "casual encounters" section of Craigslist he thought the victim had posted. The police were able to trace the emails to a computer at her husband's job and was charged with solicitation of rape and burglary. Court records say he admitted setting up the attacks.

This latest Craigslist crime may be the creepiest yet. Police say this woman had no idea what her husband was up to. In a weird way, there are three victims here. Those two guys didn't think they were committing an actual crime. Of course the thought of someone answering an ad like that is more than a little disturbing, but not against the law if all parties are willing.

Nevertheless, it's frightening to think of what could have happened to her had she not fought so hard. Even scarier -- the reason she was in danger in the first place. She and her husband were still together, so I can't imagine she thought he was capable of doing something so horrific to the person he once pledged to love and honor.

Do you think the guys who answered the ad should be punished too?

No i do not think they should be punished. I think any punishment that would be given to them should be given to the husband. Does he say WHY he posted an ad like that? Thats just ridiculous!!!

maybe its a "fantasy" (although a very creepy & disturbing one) to rape someone but didnt want to actually hurt anyone? Maybe thats why they responded to the ad...idk :/

While I think the husband should receive the harshest sentence, I do think the other two guys should be charged with something.  If committing a criminal act, abusing/raping a woman is your fantasy - you can't be that far away from actually committing the act.  Besides, common sense tells you not to trust what you read online.  They shouldn't be looking for ways to act out their fantasy on online sites.    They were foolish and their judgement was lacking - but then what do you expect from someone who wants to RAPE a woman??

They shouldn't be punished. The guy did ask her name. But they need to change this system! You could just order a rape on anyone!

No. They had no idea that the woman didn't actually want them to do that. People are into weird things. I agree, there are 3 victims here.

They should not be charged, they are as innocent as the woman, IMO. But seriously, WTF is wrong with her husband? Will she ever be able to trust another man again? Likely not. I hope he is punished severely for this. What a sick bastard.

What kind of a man wants to act on that kind of fantasy? Charge them all!
