George Zimmerman is officially having the worst year of his life. As if being accused of second-degree murder is not enough, now a woman has come forward saying Zimmerman molested her starting when she was 6 years old. And she's a relative! The timing of this bombshell is bizarre since it apparently happened many years ago, but if you look at how the alleged molestation occurred, it also makes perfect sense that the victim would be coming out now that Zimmerman is accused of something else.
The woman, now 27 and whose name is being kept private, reported the series of assaults to police a month after the shooting of Trayvon Martin. She told investigators she was 6 when Martin allegedly started touching, groping, kissing, fondling, and inserting his fingers into her vagina.
This scenario involving relatives is extremely common. That there was touching and penetration but no actual intercourse is, as well. But so is the fact that she didn't say anything to her family until she was an adult. He was older, and someone she knew, trusted, and probably even liked. Plus there was no intercourse, so that leaves things in a bit of a "gray" area in the mind of a child.
It's hard to imagine someone you love would hurt you like that. So you just silently and painfully go along with it, either thinking you are making a big deal of nothing, or that no one would believe you anyway. And you let it happen again and again until you just can't take it anymore.
That is what happened when the girl was 16 and she went screaming from a bedroom after Zimmerman attempted to give her a massage, according to reports.
Four years later she told her sister and her parents. They supposedly confronted Zimmerman, who is said to have apologized, but his family tried to dismiss it away. But nothing more seemed to happen, and that's why this was the right opportunity for the victim, who told police "she wasn't afraid of him anymore" and corroborated that he and his family were racist. Everyone is sure to take her seriously now and she is finally able to feel she has a shot at feeling "righted" for the crimes committed against her.
Murder and child molesting are two different, seemingly irrelevant cases on the police blotter. But are they really? If any of these recent claims are true, you have to wonder if Zimmerman has ever thought about what he did to the relative over the years and if he tried to justify it as "kids' play" or "harmless" or "she came on to me" or whatever any child molester does to try to condone their actions. And then you think about Trayvon Martin again, and that's where the connections start falling into place a little more ...
Do you believe there is any truth to these allegations?

Um, I don't see any connection between molesting a child and shooting an adult stranger, except they're both on the Top Ten Things You Shouldn't Do list.
I think the timing of her accusation is very suspect, too. But I've not been a victim of abuse, so I have no frame of reference for when I'd feel "safe" about accusing/confronting my abuser.
The poor girl. :( I believe it.
Many victims come forward after a person is arrested. Usually it is for the same crime - but still - him being under arrest would certainly make a victim feel 'safe' for the first time.
I'm so sorry for what she had to endure.
(And seriously - what is the point of making that up?? He's in prison. And it is completely unrelated. They aren't out there looking for abuse victims of zimmerman.)
I think coming forward while he was in jail makes sense. You would feel like he couldn't get you, that people might believe you now (she told her parents and they didn't really do anything, he just got away with it that has to be devastating.) I do think weather or not her allegations are true, that it makes her accusations of racism suspect.
She is 27, according to Wiki he is 28. So he was 7 to her 6? So she said it happened once a year or so until she ended it at 16. If he did it, procescute him for it. It is a seperate case though.
Zimmerman's case has had so many leaks to the press, I can't see how his due process rights haven't been violated repeatedly. I don't know if he did it as self defence or not, but if they keep up the witch hunt it isn't going to be justice, just a side show circus to entertain a very sick segment of the american population.
