Attention parents! When someone with a really weird story wants to move into your house, you might want to think twice before you say yes! Here's betting the mother of a 15-year-old boy stalked across an ocean by a 25-year-old British alleged child molester is wishing she had.
Police in St. Augustine, Florida say 25-year-old Michael Hunter came all the way from his home in Birmingham, England, to have sex with a 15-year-old American boy he'd met on the Internet. When he pretended to be 17-year-old Gary Johnson, a classmate with cancer, the 15-year-old's mom let the alleged pedophile move into their house.
Which part of this sounds bizarre to you? All of it?
Exactly!
I am wary about who comes into my house as it is. If they're actually moving in, and going to be around my kid, I want name, rank, and serial number. If something smells fishy, there's no way I'm sleeping easy with them in the house.
I'm going to give the mom here the benefit of the doubt. Kid -- or at least a guy who appears to be a kid -- tells you he has non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and your heart is bound to ache for him. Childhood cancer hits me right in the guts. And when a kid says they're having family strife, the first thing you think as a Mom is, "OK, how do I help?"
But if a kid has cancer, wouldn't you think staying WITH the parents would be best? I know I wouldn't take on the complicated mess of health care, especially not with something as serious as cancer.
And wouldn't you want to actually talk to a kid's parents before they move in? Any kid? Even one who doesn't have cancer? I'd want to let them know their kid is safe, for one. Not to mention, I'd be afraid of legal action if I suddenly took custody of someone else's minor child.
Oh, and there's that pesky British accent. Should have been a bit of warning. But hey, what do I know? The strangest person who has ever moved into my house for awhile was my brother.
Hunter, by the way, has been arrested and will be charged.
What kind of background check would you require before someone moved into your house? What if they were a "kid"?

My mom took in mys sisters best friend. Mom called her mom to confirm the story of being tossed out and well her mom did confirm it in the most colorful fashion possible. There were always a lot of people at my house growing up.
Mom always called the parents. She never called us liars she just wanted to confirm to know if she could help or something idk. She did the right thing.
Check out the story every single time. What mom always did what I will do when they get that age.
She trusted this kid and her son a little to much apparently he should not be trust to be on the Internet without supervision. He fell for someone way to old for him.
BTW he does not look 17 to me at all, and he does not look sickly either.
Not that all cancer patents look sick but common he looks really damn healthy.
The worse part this is not the first time he met the kid in person. just wrong.
I would have to know the person before I let them move in, as far as someone elses kid moving in? Only if I had parental permission would I then consider allowing the child tgo move in, unless it was a social worker on my door step asking if the child could stay with me while they found a new home, then the story would be different. But I would not just let some random kid move in, no matter how old they are.
What gets me is yes I've taken in my son's friends etc. But the point is they are your kids friends. This woman took in A COMPLETE STRANGER-SHE DIDN'T KNOW HIM FROM ADAM & SHE TOOK HIM IN. Not only am I worried about her son-or any other children living in this house but how stupid is she to take in a stranger, does she let every person that she doesn't know into her house or just this person? I question what else this woman has done & continues to do with people she doesn't know.
Whay planet was this lady born on? I have done some stupid things but words can't describe her action. She needs to be locked up too.
never move anyone in for the first place
Wow. Thank god the father was the adult here. It wouldn't surprise me if this guy has a trail of victims, starting in England, too. As in, "I need money to go abroad for cancer treatment, etc." Clearly, it didn't take him long to know the mother was as much a mark, either. His alias is "Hunter," too... hmm, coincidence?
Yeah, that was some very poor judgment! I hope there were some details/circumstances of which we are unaware that would make this mom look a little better (but I'm really having a hard time speculating on what those could even be!). I bet the son was in on it, but probably didn't realize it was a perv posing at a teenager. But, here's another thought: It would be nice if gay teens could be out and comfortable and were able to conventionally date, rather than being forced to turn to the internet which is full of creepers and perverts!
Kelly24019 - There are quite a few "American" pedophiles already here in the states. I think that saying "British people are weird" is a bit racist. Him being ENGLISH doesn't make him weird. Him, lying to sleep with a 15-year-old boy is. Have some class.
