I'm not sure what I was expecting to see when I tuned in to watch Ann Curry say goodbye to Today show viewers after her "firing" from the co-anchor seat. I guess I expected more of a goodbye? But this long-time Curry fan will take it!
Turns out Curry is not fired so much as demoted. Her new job will keep her with NBC News to do "the work that most of us got into journalism to do." Ahem, folks, in case you didn't realize it before, this proves it.
Ann Curry? Is a class act.
Instead of throwing up her middle finger to the network that has blamed her for a dip in viewers (instead of, oh, I don't know, the complete drivel that Kathie Lee and Hoda serve up every morning), then sitting pretty at home, she's actually sticking around! And as tearful as she sounded, I dare say the job of being a regular old reporter/interviewer sounds like something Curry will actually enjoy. Take a listen:

OK, I think I may have gotten chills at the word "groundbreaking," you?
I am not happy to see Curry kicked out of the co-anchor slot, but if any job is appropriate for her, it's one that plays to her strengths as a journalist. Because at the end of the day, that's what she is. Thank goodness someone realized it! And thank goodness -- for us -- that she's taking the high road and sticking around.
What do you think of Curry sticking around?

The only reason I ever liked that show was because of her. I like when she does Dateline specials too. That being said, I rarely watched the Today show and that's because it's the same recycled crap and WAY too many commercials. Annoying.
She was absoLUTEly fired from Today. Were we watching the same program? She got the 'Siberia' transfer, aka the beginning of the end. She was unceremoniously dumped, and given a few stiff accolades by her couch 'comrades,' and one commercial later... voilà, Guthrie's next to Matt. They gave Meredith a week-long send-off after a year, and THIS shabby treatment to Ann after 17 years. Shame on them. NBC didn't want to pay out Ann's contract without milking her for more work as the door hits her on the way out. She'll go to another network in a year, watch and see... Her farewell was such a sad and pitiful moment. NBC execs are cowardly, cheap and amoral. Good luck, Ann!
I really liked Ann...And I agree about Kathie Lee and Hoda. Seriously..WHY are those women on the air?
Hello, GMA! After growing up with the Today show on every morning and watching as an adult, today will be the last time I watch. Between NBC's shoddy treatment of Ann and the degree to which Matt Lauer has become an arrogant condescending bastard who is just flat out unpleasant to watch, I won't be tuninng in again.
Blah! See ya later Matt fakidy fake Lauer! I blame you.
