Mom Found Eating Ice Cream Naked After a Car Wreck Involving Her Kids

Say What!? 21

Stephanie DillardIt would be easy to say that the Texas mom charged with crashing a car full of kids into a city bus was a bad person. After all, cops allege Stephanie Dillard abandoned all three of her children at the scene of the accident, stripped down naked, and set herself up in a drugstore to eat some ice cream. Put it that way, and it sounds ... weird? Mentally disturbed, maybe?

Exactly, folks. There are only so many things a person can do wrong in the span of a few minutes before you have to start wondering if they were of sound mind when it all happened. And that's when people with even just a tiny ounce of sympathy in them have to drop the judgment and hope for the best.

So here's what I hope.

I hope that Stephanie Dillard gets treatment. Fast. Because boy does she ever sound like she needs it.

Cops can't say what even caused the car crash! But when you're in a crash with your 5-year-old, your 12-year-old, and your 16-year-old, and you climb out, leaving them right there to deal with their (minor) injuries themselves, chances are things aren't exactly "right" in your head at the moment. You don't even need to add the allegations about getting naked in a drugstore and eating ice cream. But the fact is, cops are saying Dilard did all of this. So you add bizarre action on top of wacky on top of just awful, and what do you get: a woman who is screaming for help.

I know, it would be easy to shake your head and say, "Uh uh, I've never done that, so why should I feel for her?" But part of being human is realizing that not everyone is perfect. If we want to improve society, sometimes what we need to do is throw out a hand and say, "here, let me help you." Judgement can wait.

If not for her, Dillard needs to get help for the sake of those three kids. They need a mom who isn't the naked ice cream eater that everyone in town is talking about ... at least if she wants them to grow up anywhere close to normal.

How do you feel about the Texas mom's predicament? Are you angry? Sympathetic?

Why is everyone stripping down when they do strange things? I mean, seriously, in mental illnesses and disturbances is being naked an effect?

Assuming this is a mental problem: Unless she suffered head trauma, then she probably showed signs & symptoms before this. I would like to hear more back-story on this woman before forming an opinion.

How come these types of stories NEVER involve attractive women...

I'm wondering if she hit her head in the accident, or perhaps some type of shock or something? Maybe mental illness. But it seems like someone would have noticed that before this incident. Either way, it's obvious that she wasn't thinking normally. Sad story.

I wonder if this was all a stunt in order to not get in trouble for the accident.  I live with a bi-polar person and they have never behaved in this manner.  Does not sound like a mental health issue to me.

My bet would be wither a head injury or bath salts because everyone on those seems to strip naked.

My brother is epileptic, and after he has seizures he becomes very confused and constantly tries to take his clothes off. My grandma suffered from dementia at the end of her life and also constantly removed her clothing. I don't know why it happens, but in my experience it does.

You talk about not being judgmental, but the way you write your post comes across that you think this woman was whacko.

How do we know she didn't hit her head, or wasn't in shock of some sort. As an EMT, I've seen all sorts of strange things, but jumping to the conclusion that this woman is just crazy plain and simple is not only rude and wrong, but it could be VERY dangerous.

We had one time an incident where the police had pulled someone over for drunk driving. They arrested the man and took him to jail for it and for resisting arrest. Turns out he was a diabetic with a blood sugar in the 30's (dangerously low).

I hope for her kids sake that if she is crazy she gets help. But I hope for the police's sake that they do find out she has mental issues and wasn't injured in the crash, because if they took her to jail assuming she was nuts and she ends up seriously injured or dying from an injury caused by the accident, they're going to have a mess on their hands!

My best friend's 19 year old autistic brother strips all of his clothes off and runs down the street butt naked.
