President Obama's decision to allow young illegal immigrants to remain in the country is stirring up strong opinions among Republicans and Democrats alike.
Some view Mr. Obama's decision as a compassionate, ethical choice-- After all, these immigrants didn't make the decision themselves to enter the US illegally-- They were brought here by their parents.
Others say it doesn't matter who made that choice-- The fact is that these young immigrants are here illegally, taking jobs and resources that rightfully belong to legal immigrants and American citizens.
There's plenty to talk about here and that's why we're putting the issue to our political bloggers this week, asking them what they think about the President's new immigration policy.
We'll be hearing from them all week long-- In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the matter?
The conversation on this topic has been buzzing all weekend long on our Moms Matter Facebook page, with some calling the president compassionate and others asserting that the president made this immigration policy shift in a not-so-subtle effort to win the Latino vote in swing states. Check out just a few of these moms' thoughts:
"So if you break the law long enough... It becomes legal?" wrote Marcy. "BS."
"My nephew married an illegal immigrant, she came over w|her parents when she was 3," wrote Stephanie. "I don't think she should be deported for her parents choices.. they made that choice for her. There are lots of things we don't like.. But turn the tables.. What would we do for a better life? Punish the parents, not the children."
"Those kids will get the jobs and the college money long before your kid will," wrote Karen. "Think about all that work you've done. All the taxes you've paid. Guess whose kid goes to college and whose stays home. and guess whose money will pay for those illegals to go to college and take your kids' jobs. Ticked off yet?"
"All who are indignant about this need to learn a lesson in the history of this country. WE took it away from the native Americans who were living here," wrote Evelyn. "Unless we are full Native American, then our ancestors were immigrants to this country. Stop beating your chest and proclaiming to be a true American citizen if your origin was European or whatever... I think the President is right, very moral and understands the difficult situation these young people are in."
"Many of these "children" are well into their 30's and I do not see it as cruel to not allow them to continue to benefit from the crimes of their parents," wrote Nicole. "Has anyone bothered to notice the unemployment rate and limited opportunities for our own youth?"
"I understand anger against those adults who come here illegally, but anger against people who had no choice?" wrote Anamaria. "Young people brought as children who grew up here and know no other country, home or even language? How can you be so angry at them? It's not their fault! Where is your compassion people?"
The immigration issue is certainly a hot button one. Here's what out political bloggers have to say:
President Obama Opens the Door for 1 Million Young People to Dream
Obama's Immigration Reform Was a Ploy for Votes He Probably Won't Get
Presiden't Obama's Immigration Directive Gives Relief, Not Immunity
Deportation of Illegal College Kids Isn't Really a Problem In America

It's fantastic that people who have spent their entire lives here don't have to be ripped away from family, friends and jobs because they were brought here when they were 3.
Perhaps OWEbama should simply dissolve Congress, if they will not bend to his whim on all issues?
When Rick Perry said basically the same thing he was crucified. This is just Obama circumventing the law, congress and the constifution to get votes. He wants to throw Republicans off on another tangent and it's not working this time. What I want to know is what happens to all of these youngsters parents? I'm sure the administration knows they exist and will not be sending them back. Yeah, this is amnesty through and through.
This case Obama should have made 3 1/2 years ago when he said he would, not hold it off until election time runs around. This is a game to Obama, all the things he said he was going to do when he first got elected he has not done , but Now we are hearing them once again in a different light. And if all the illegals swallow this line from the man who couldn't make this very same decision three years ago are fools to believe it now. So you say you don't care he is doing it Now! Well he isn't really good with his promises now is he? And if like Texasmomma said it is a slap to all citizens of this country what he pulls with his excitive orders and over rides the Constitution so what makes any one feel that with a stroke of his pen after he get what he wants you are no longer entitled to anything, If he does something once he will do it over and over . So just remember this is only a vote for him and nothing for you.
@itsmesteph @ 2:54pm, Excellent points.
I also think the Obama campaign is using this to try to bait & trap Romney: if Romney agrees, he gets slammed by one side; if Romney disagrees, he gets slammed by another side. In other words, Obama's trying to create another huge distraction from his miserable record and pushing this issue to keep it on top of the news cycle.
Wisely, Romney didn't take the bait and came out this morning slamming Obama about his dismal record on jobs and unemployment, where the focus rightly needs to be right now.
I don't think the majority of the American people are taking Obama's "bait" either. Yes, he's certainly "transparent"!
It discriminates against American citizens but then what we have here is the most devisive president in the nations history. He pits race agains race, ecomonic classes against one another. Why are we surprised at any underhanded thing he does??
A few years ago, Emperor OWEbama dictated the policy that illegal alien families with small children would be exempted from our immigration laws. So, as it stands now, anyone can enter, and if they have children they will not be deported, and after five years, the children are given legal status.
If this is not a blanket Amnesty, it is about as close as you can come.
While I understand that these people didn't make the decision to come to this country, I think it sends the wrong message. The leader of our country should be enforcing the laws of our country, not picking and choosing which ones he wants to follow. This is absolutely a slap in the face to all immigrants who came here LEGALLY (which costs quite a bit of money, I might add). What an absolute disgrace.
And, @ Amber Marlow, how are these people not being ripped away from their family? Per Obama's decision, he didn't say the parents would not be deported, as they should be. So, their parents will be deported while they'll be given work pemits, taking away jobs from those who are here legally. That's fantasic to you?
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (whose state is under siege by Obama's Justice Department) speaks out: Gov. Jan Brewer blasted President Barack Obama Friday for taking what she called a “pre-emptive strike” against the state’s tough illegal immigration enforcement law. …
“It is no coincidence that this sweeping policy change was announced less than five months before a presidential election,” she said during a late morning press conference.
“Most importantly this unilateral act is a pre-emptive strike against the United States Supreme Court and its decision on Senate Bill 1070, which may come as early as this Monday."
Meanwhile, Mexico's President, Felipe Calderon, applauds Obama's illegal power-grab.
