nik wallenda niagara falls

So what did you do last night? Whatever it was, it couldn't possibly have been as cray cray dangerous as what Nik Wallenda did. Last night be became the first man to walk directly over Niagara Falls -- the actual falls.

It took him about 30 minutes to walk a tightrope across the gorge. No net underneath him, folks! Just a whole lotta mist, terrifying gushing waters, and certain death. Fortunately the father of three made it. Watch this incredible feat and just keep in mind -- that wire is wet!

I love that he called his 84-year-old grandma as soon as he landed. I honestly don't know if my own grandma would survive it I attempted a stunt like this! But Wallenda's grandma probably wasn't worried. He is actually the seventh generation in a line of tightrope walkers (or "wire walkers").

Wallenda wasn't the first person to walk across the Niagara gorge. Over 100 years ago other daredevils crossed the gorge all kinds of ways, even while eating an omelet. The last crossing was 116 years ago. But this was the first time someone crossed directly over the most terrifying section, the falls. What would have happened if he'd lost his balance and fallen in? I guess you'd have to ask Lori Martin and Steve Trotter, daredevils who actually went over the falls in a barrel and lived. But this wasn't just some wacky stunt for Nik Wallenda. This was a life-long dream of his and he has some inspiring words for all of us:

This is what dreams are made of, people. Pursue your dreams. Never give up. Mine might seem strange, but anyone dealing with any battle, just focus on the other side.

Did you find Nik Wallenda's stunt inspiring or just plain crazy?

He actually had a safety harness. So it wasn't certain death, just embarrassment if he would have fallen. It was still amazing that he did it!

He had a harness by force for ABC. He has never worn a harness before, and while he was walkjng, his dad asked him how it was doing and he said " I feel like a kackoff, i mean jackass wearing it". Hahhhha
It was thrilling for our area, and brought in a lot of money. He was inspirational and gave his glory to God. Which I am suprised the media didnt cut that out.

I was there watching...truly awe-inspiring. he looked so calm and relaxed that most of us there were holding our breaths for him. LOL An amazing event that is truly once in a lifetime.

Last summer my family saw a Flying Wallendas show. After the show I took my daughter, who struggles with a severe anxiety disorder, to the stage to ask them what things they were scared of. I hoped it would show her that everyone has fears they have to deal with. The whole family was extremely kind and forthcoming with their fears. They mentioned spiders, snakes, being on the ground in crowds of people and my personal favorite, which I believe may have been from Nik Wallenda himself, was a fear of feeling fear. He said he can't handle that feeling and will do about anything to avoid it. The family was kind and gracious not to mention crazy talented!

They seem very sincere Denise. It's nice to hear they really are.

I thought of you Billsfan. I was born there too and knew one of the "clowns" who performed last night. It's excellent for the area and it's such a fun place to be.
