face chewing victimAll joking about the zombie apocalypse aside, I'm relieved to hear that the face-chewing victim from Florida is now awake and alert, according to doctors. Reporters were allowed to see a photograph of Ronald Poppo and describe to us what they saw.

Actually, considering the trauma of the attack and the damage done, I wonder if he's glad to be awake.

We, the public, will not see photos of the victim any time soon, thank goodness. Lord knows I'm curious, I'll admit that. But the pictures in my mind are already kind of scary. I do not need to see that poor man's face first-hand. Here's how extensive the damage is.

Here's how an AP reporter describes the photo:

The photo showed the upper two-thirds of Poppo's face covered in scabs. He's missing his nose and both eye sockets were covered, one with gauze and one with what appeared to be a skin graft. His gray beard was trimmed, leaving a mustache over his upper lip.

Yup, definitely do not want to see the photo. I have to admit, though, it doesn't sound as bad as I'd imagined. His face may be covered in scabs, but it sounds like he still skin covering most of his skull. Sounds like his mouth is still there. But yeah, no eyes or nose.

Anyway ... shudder. I wish Ronald the best. He did nothing to deserve such a horrible attack and I hope doctors are able to work miracles with his face. They say he's in for months of treatment and will still be permanently disfigured. But Ronald has survived this much so far, so it sounds like he's a resilient person.
