Late last night, gunfire rang out at the University Heights apartment complex near Auburn University, resulting in multiple victims being shot. There are reportedly at least three people confirmed dead, and at least two others who were rushed to the hospital with injuries. The complex is known for housing many students who attend Auburn.
And while the exact number of victims & their identities have not been confirmed, there is speculation that Auburn football players may be among the injured or dead. As of this morning, police & rescue crews still had not left the scene, where shocked & sad residents were slowly being allowed back into their apartments.
Apparently there was a party going on at the apartment complex last night before the shots were fired, so this sounds like a potential case of a fun night gone horribly wrong.
And for the small town in Alabama, having something like this happen near the university is a such a scary nightmare -- and is eerily reminiscent of the shootings that happened at Virginia Tech. Blacksburg, Virginia is another seemingly quiet and safe college town that was rocked to its core after the massacre that occurred there. And while the Auburn shooting didn't happen directly on campus -- the incident is still horribly sad and unsettling for students and faculty of the university.
Police are expected to release more details sometime later this morning, but no matter how you look at it, this is yet another scary and tragic situation involving a major university.
What are your thoughts on this awful shooting?

3 dead, including 2 former auburn football players, several others injured. Still looking for the shooter. What a tragedy. Thoughts and prayers to all involved. :(
I am from Auburn and this is so hard to believe. We are a town that takes pride in being one of the most family oriented cities in Alabama. Granted I live in TX now, I still scream War Eagle. Need to call and check on my kids dad I guess since they are in Auburn AL with him right now.
I also am from Alabama. This is such a tragedy. Still don't know all the details but prayers go out to the families of these boys.
