Defiant Pregnant Lady Tasered But It's Hard to Feel Sorry for Her

taser gun

I'm not in favor of tasers being used on pregnant women at all, but I'm also quite opposed to pregnant women using handicapped parking spaces when they are technically not handicapped. No, pregnancy is not a handicap. It might feel that way on your crappiest, back-achy, swollen ankle days, but no -- it is not a disabling condition that entitles you to special accommodations, nor is it even a privilege. From the way it sounds, 30-year-old Tiffany Rent really brought the situation outside a Chicago Walgreens that led to cops tasering her chest on herself, sorry to say.

Just guessing what happened here. Rent had two kids in the car, a 9-year-old and 3-year-old, that she could simply not leave alone while she ran into the drug store for lord-knows-what. So she parked in the blue outlined section that was probably closer to the door so she could keep an eye on her kids while she ran in and out. Guilty myself of leaving the kids for just a minute to grab something, but never using a handicapped spot. Having family members who genuinely need those spots, that irks me beyond anything. It's lazy, inconsiderate, and illegal.

Cops were only doing their job trying to ticket Rent for parking illegally, and even warned her they were going to use the stun gun if she tried to drive off after defiantly tearing up her ticket. But she continued resist and use vulgar language, according to reports.

Now Rent is ranting that she worried the police put her baby in danger (even though the baby supposedly checked out fine at the hospital). Would have been nice if she considered that before she started kicking up a ruckus over a parking ticket.

As a former pregnant woman myself, I sympathize with the daily challenges of being a second- or even third-time expectant mom. I think people should give up their seat for pregnant women on the subway or bus. It's just the right thing to do. But pulling the pregnancy card to break the law is just not cool. And it's obnoxious.

Anyone disagree?

    1. since when does cussing and parking illegally warrant being tasered? punishment does not fit the crime here

    2. people can DIE from being tasered, so ya, I agree with her. Those police should be reviewed for doing this, her baby could have easily been harmed.

    3. you say she parked in the handicapped spot because it was closer to to the door and she was leaving her kids in the car, but then you say she did it because shes pregnant. Either way, she shouldnt have been tasered. Had she got in her car, would the police have also gone on a high speed chase? So what if she tears up the ticket, its not like a subpoena where she actually has to accept it for it to be valid.

Tasering for tearing up a ticket and wanting to drive off, seems unreasonable. Last time I checked, tearing a ticket in half in front of a cop or even at home , is not against the law, at least not in NYC. Yea it might piss the cop off, but its not illegal. What would it even matter if she tore up the ticket, it's still going in the system and she's still going to have to pay it.

    Agree with stacey, and MsRkg.
This was not something she "brought on herself"
And to be honest, I think handicap spots are stupid as hell. If you're THAT handicap that you can't walk the parking lot, you shouldn't be driving. And if someone is driving you, they should be helping you get to the store.

Read the damn article linked before making comments. The officer said he would tase her if she tried to drive away. So what did she do. She tried to drive away.

The officer fired the stun gun as she put her SUV into gear, according to a police report.

She brought this on herself. Maybe she should have put some thought into the harm she was exposing her child to when she decided that she could do whatever the hell she pleased just because she's pregnant.

Who cares if she was driving off? She accepted the ticket that he gave her for, took it, and ripped it up and was leaving. Tearing a ticket in half is not illegal! Leaving the area/driving off after receiving a ticket is not illegal, even if she tore it up, it  is not illegal!! How long do you hang around after receiving a ticket before you leave? If i get one, as soon as its in my hand, I'm gone before the cop has even made it back to his car.

Read the attached article before defending her!  She cussed @ the officer, tore the ticket up, & threw it in his face.  He was getting ready to write her another ticket for littering & she was getting ready to drive off.  He told her if she tried to drive off, he would taser her.  Being pregnant is not an excuse for breaking the law or being disrespectful.  She was sitting in her car, so he probably couldn't even tell she was pregnant.  She was breaking the law & given warnings.  They just thought they could get away with it.

Lots of people tear up tickets and drive off. Know what happens? They mail them a new ticket! They dont tase people. Watch the video of the crazy women who threw a kaniption tore up the ticket and sped off. The cop laughs. Or the guy who tore one up and threw it at the cop? The cop threatened to issue him with a littering citation if he didn't pick it up. Not to tase him.

I do not see where deadly force was warranted. Even though a taser does not have the same deadly force as a regular gun, it can kill and therefore should be considered deadly force and used only in threatening situations. Someone ripping up their ticket does not qualify. Especially when you have all their info from a previous ticket/her plate number. Re-send the original and issue the other. It won't go away if they rip it up. Using the taser makes you look like a douche.

Also, we are hearing HER side of the story.  I am sure the surveillence will come out soon.  Her bf or husband, whatever was in the car with her too.  You don't know if there were threats being made.

She brought it upon herself. She tore up the ticket and threw it at the officer, which is assault. She then got in the car to drive away while the officer was still performing his duty - trying to find out who she is and writing a ticket for littering. At that point the car can become a deadly weapon if the officer is near it. I'm sure there will be a lawsuit over this but she should have accepted the ticket and gone to traffic court to plead not guilty instead of becoming combative and putting herself, her children and her unborn baby at risk.

Handicapped tickets are expensive for a reason, unless there is a plackard on the car you can't park there - otherwise you deserve to be ticketed.
