I'm not in favor of tasers being used on pregnant women at all, but I'm also quite opposed to pregnant women using handicapped parking spaces when they are technically not handicapped. No, pregnancy is not a handicap. It might feel that way on your crappiest, back-achy, swollen ankle days, but no -- it is not a disabling condition that entitles you to special accommodations, nor is it even a privilege. From the way it sounds, 30-year-old Tiffany Rent really brought the situation outside a Chicago Walgreens that led to cops tasering her chest on herself, sorry to say.
Just guessing what happened here. Rent had two kids in the car, a 9-year-old and 3-year-old, that she could simply not leave alone while she ran into the drug store for lord-knows-what. So she parked in the blue outlined section that was probably closer to the door so she could keep an eye on her kids while she ran in and out. Guilty myself of leaving the kids for just a minute to grab something, but never using a handicapped spot. Having family members who genuinely need those spots, that irks me beyond anything. It's lazy, inconsiderate, and illegal.
Cops were only doing their job trying to ticket Rent for parking illegally, and even warned her they were going to use the stun gun if she tried to drive off after defiantly tearing up her ticket. But she continued resist and use vulgar language, according to reports.
Now Rent is ranting that she worried the police put her baby in danger (even though the baby supposedly checked out fine at the hospital). Would have been nice if she considered that before she started kicking up a ruckus over a parking ticket.
As a former pregnant woman myself, I sympathize with the daily challenges of being a second- or even third-time expectant mom. I think people should give up their seat for pregnant women on the subway or bus. It's just the right thing to do. But pulling the pregnancy card to break the law is just not cool. And it's obnoxious.
Anyone disagree?

Wow... this is such a fine line. On the one hand she was rude and she completely deserved the ticket. On the other hand, I dissagree with the use of the taser. Did he know she was pregnant? I agree she acted wrongly but if she had torn up a bill from the service man coming to turn off her cable... even throwing it in his face... he would be charged for violence if he tasered her. The ticket will go to court and she will pay regardless or end up in jail... I think this became more about the cop's ego and less about breaking the law. God help you these days if you don't kowtow with a please and thank you to certain cops... though not all. We have good men and women on our force.
I don't think this lady should have been tased. Come on, she ripped up a ticket and cussed at a cop. If she would of threatened bodily harm, maybe. What about the two kids in the car? The cop put them in danger by tasing the lady while in a moving car. I'm not saying she was right but like other posts said, the punishment did not fit the crime. I am really surprised that the editor thinks this lady deserved to be tased. She was wrong and she shouldn't be parking in handicap parking or leaving kids in car alone, but really. Ifthe cops are gonna start tasing people for throwing temper tantrums, thats all they would ever get done.
Uhm. No. It NO way is putting a taser to a pregnant woman alright. If that would have hurt the child, I would have pressed charges for manslaughter. I honestly think it should be totally legal to park in handicapped parking when you're pregnant. I have hip dysplacia and being 9 months pregnant with that disease is fucking outrageous to try to walk all the way to walmart from the way back when an elderly couple gets to walk all of 10 feet..An elderly couple with wheelchairs. A luxury most pregnat women don't get to have. I hated having to walk all that way being that pregnant. I would have done the exact thing. Right down to the T. Ripping up the ticket and all. And if the police tasered me, I would have pressed charges. Period. Endangerment of my fucking child. God this gets me heated.
Im not saying this was right or wrong, i think it was extreme to teaser her. I for one when i was pregnant i was high rick so i had a handicap sticker for my car. i never did use it i was to worried for the people that really did need it. I think the women was in the wrong going all hormonal on the guy especially in front of her kids not an example to be setting for them, but i do feel the cops could have done something different as well rather then teaser her.
sorry my kindle keeps putting teaser instead of taser its frustrating me!
