Dear Liberals & Conservatives: Let’s All Get Along!

by Jenny Erikson on June 7, 2012 at 10:03 AM

american flagHow can Republican and Democratic moms learn to get along, work together, and most importantly, set an example for our children and others?

Stop calling each other names, and for Pete’s sake, stop excusing those who do.

Unfortunately, this phenomenon of calling women with differing political views horrible names comes almost exclusively from the left side of the aisle. Women on the right have been called traitors, bitches, and meat bags with lipstick (just to name a few of the more charming barbs).

How is anyone supposed to have a rational conversation with all of that vitriol being flung about? Do liberals really think that Republican women are going to want to sit down and have a friendly chat about policy when they know that they’re eventually going to be called c*nts?

But, but, but ... Rush Limbaugh! Slut! Ok, that happened. The king of conservative talk radio called a woman wanting the government to subsidize her sex life a slut to make a point or a cause a media stir or for whatever reason he did, and I don’t believe he should have. But it’s hardly comparable to comments Republican women get on every day ending in ‘y.’

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was recently called a traitor to her gender. Less than two months later, she had her face plastered to a piñata before it was between with a stick by a union group. Commentator S.E. Cupp had her face photo shopped in a lewd act that was published in Hustler.

Potential First Lady Ann Romney, one of the sweetest, most motherly women married to a politician that still calls her his soul mate, has not escaped the attacks. If people are going to call a woman with MS that has survived cancer and raising five boys into upstanding men nasty names, what hope is there for the rest of us conservative mamas?

The list goes on and on.

This practice of bashing conservative females has gotten so out of hand that one GOP spokesperson snapped in an online rant that we should “hurl some acid at those female democratic Senators who won’t abide the mandates they want to impose on the private sector."

By the left’s own rules according to Bill Maher, this shouldn’t bother anyone, because he excused his own attacks on Sarah Palin by pointing out that as a public figure, she’s fair game. Last time I checked, Senators were public figures. So either the left is going to have to condemn Maher calling Palin the grodiest name in American insults, or calm down about the right potentially doing the same thing.

Republicans and Democrats will never see eye to eye on everything, but one thing I hope we can agree on is to stop needlessly insulting each other. Capishe?

So you're promoting harmony and friendship with a "he said, she said" article and a "they're worse than us" thing? Probably won't work. People are so immature in general, left, right or centre. Plus they just don't get that name calling is so low - they make the "other" side look better than them! Sigh...

This is not a let's get along plea. This is a "Liberals need to shut up and keep taking it in the a$$ and say, "thank you sir, may I have another." Pa. The. Tic.

I so wish the Right would stop crying about their so called PERSECUTION as they continue to tear their countries down around them.

And I was not aware that calling Ann Romney what basically equates to lazy or spoiled is the same thing as SLUT or "let's throw acid in their faces"? Hmm, my bad.

I agree that the name calling has to stop. Male politicians don't have to put up with the same degree of harassment as their female counter parts. However, this article is one sided. The female politicians who get called out and insulted are usually very vocal, which they're supposed to be. But right now I would say that republicans have more vocal women on power than democrats. Does that mean they should be called bimbos or twats? No, but the article could have done a better job of fighting the mid sl

Given that you are the woman who acts as if all liberals are missing some essential chromosome, I find this article rather hard to believe

I love how you just completely skip over the what what liberal women have been called, like slut and ballbuster. If you want people to get along then start by trying to at least ACT like you care that women on both sides have been degraded and name called, not just your precious conservative cronies.

Really? This is nothing more than "everyone should stop picking on conservatives". this is not an article calling for fairness or civility on both sides. this is you, once again, attacking the other side. you are no better than Bill Mahr or any other liberals you are always whining about. And by the way, I would rather be called a t**t or a c**t than have someone threaten or encourage others to throw acid in my face.

Oh sorry you didn't skip over it, you rationalized it because republican women have gotten it ever so much worse.

Well, looks like procrast has emphatically rejected the suggestion... And procrasta, considering the astounding level of hypocrisy, you have no legitimate complaint if someone responds to your slander and lies in an angry tone. Google "Wisconsin recall death threats" and get back to us with your apologies...

I can usually count on The Stir to at least be fair when taking one side or the other - but this is the worst article I've ever read here and its making me think about deleting The Stir from my favorites. You say Rush "called a woman wanting the government to subsidize her sex life a slut to make a point" which completely glosses over the FACTS of what happened - she was advocating for a friend who needed the pills to help with a medical condition. Not only are you vitriolic, you are wrong. Shame on The Stir.
