Terrifying Footage of 80-Year-Old Woman's Harrowing Skydive Mishap (VIDEO)

OMG 14

Imagine you've made it to 80-years-old, and you're still spritely, adventuresome, and hey, alive! What better way to celebrate your 80th birthday than with a little death-defying skydiving, right? Well, let me tell you, if you're even thinking about this, you'll probably change your mind after watching this video. An elderly lady by the name of Laverne Everett had the skydiving trip from hell and it's all caught on video. The jump, which took place at the Parachute Center in Lodi, California, looks anything but fun.

At the beginning of the video, Laverne is seen on the ground before the jump. "I'm real excited," she tells the videographer. "You'll have a great time," he assures her. Cue the horror music.

Up in the air, Laverne waits her turn, looking optimistic (silly, Laverne!). But as the instructor edges her to the door of the plane, she either changes her mind or senses something amiss, because she begins frantically clinging to the plane. Over and over, her hand reaches out for the door and, over and over again, he pries her fingers from her lifeline. Sensitive guy, eh?

Finally, the instructor grabs her and they plunge out of the plane. But almost immediately, it's clear that something has gone awry. Laverne has slipped from at least one harness, and the instructor looks to have a tenuous grasp on her clothes. Another pair of hands reaches out trying to grab her, but she and the instructor suddenly fly up into the sky as the parachute opens.

Laverne must have been completely terrified her entire trip down, which takes several minutes. When the pair thankfully land in one piece, several people rush over with shouts of "Help them!" and "Oh my god!"

According to various news sources, this isn't the first time things have gone wrong at the Parachute Center. Luckily, however, Laverne lived to tell the tale. Check out her wild ride. Just don't eat first.

Would you ever skydive?
