We've been celebrating Memorial Day for long enough in this country that we should know what it's all about by now. The fourth Monday in May is supposed to be the one day we all come together as Americans to honor all those who have died at war, fighting for our country.

Sadly, these days it looks more like a day to get drunk and eat a lot of hot dogs in a lot of places around the country. Which is all the more reason to remind people exactly why the federal government gives us a long weekend! And what better way then some stirring quotes about our nation's heroes?

Because the men and women who have laid down their lives for us over the years deserve something more than a cold can of beer hoisted sky high today, don't you think? Even if it's just the few moments of silence it takes to read through these quotes about what it takes to be a true hero, you can give them that, can't you?
