naked woman in lumber store new yorkA woman walks into a lumber store totally naked ... Sounds like the beginning of some lame "man joke," right? But no. It's a wild and wacky story making headlines today!

There's actual security cam footage of a woman, identified later as Barbara Lafleur, wearin' nothing but her birthday suit as she enters Curtis Lumber in Ballston Spa, New York. After being approached by two employees, she walks out, saying, "Have a good day!" Then (oh yes, there's more!), she walked into a Stewart's shop nearby, but was asked to leave. According to one of the store's employees, a manager said to Lafleur, "Ma'am, are you aware you have no clothes on?" and she was pretty much like, "Yup."

Wow, you can't make this stuff up, can you?! But it's not a laughing matter to everyone. Lafleur has been charged with public lewdness and, if convicted, could face up to 90 days in the slammer.

Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy III released a statement explaining Lafleur's intention and charges:

While the defendant claimed she was merely expressing her freedom to be fully liberated by walking nude into Stewart's and Curtis Lumber, this alleged conduct is actually a crime under the penal law.

He also admits that "Surprisingly, mental health found no psychiatric issues whatsoever." Well, I for one actually really get a kick out of the fact that she's totally sane. It makes it easier to assume that Lafleur was probably just staging some kind of hippy-dippy nudist protest. And that's cool. Come on, who did she really harm by wandering around in the buff?

Sure, we have public lewdness laws for a reason. We can't have people walking around naked in public at will, wherever, whenever! It could potentially lead to various sanitation and sexual harassment issues. But then again, let's be honest: How many Americans really want to roam or feel comfortable roaming around naked in public either?!

Being that this was a one time incident and Lafleur didn't really disturb the peace ... I say, meh, let her off the hook. The maximum jail sentence just doesn't seem to fit the crime.

Here's a local news report featuring the surveillance footage ...

What do you make of this lady's nudie shopping spree? Do you believe she should go to jail?
