Catholic University Cancels Health Insurance for Students, Thanks to Obamacare

healthcare postcardIn a move that should shock no one that’s been paying attention to the abomination that is Obamacare, a Catholic university has declined to continue insuring students who do not have their own coverage themselves or through their parents plans. Franciscan University of Steubenville has stated that due to increases in cost, as well as for religious purposes, it will no longer be covering uninsured students. It has also dropped its mandate that all students must have health insurance.

The statement reads:

The Obama administration has mandated that all health insurance plans must cover 'women's health services' including contraception, sterilization and abortion-causing medications as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. ... Up to this time, Franciscan University has specifically excluded these services and products from its student health insurance policy, and we will not participate in a plan that requires us to violate the consistent teachings of the Catholic Church on the sacredness of human life.

But, but, but … unicorn dreams and puppy dog kisses! Where’s my free stuff? How dare this school stand on their outdated morals and icky religion and deny young women the opportunity to have taxpayer-funded protected sex? Who do they think they are?

I’ll let you in on a secret: Students don’t have to attend a religious institute for higher learning. If they want to go to a school that subsidizes their birth control, then they should go to a school that does that. Or pay the $9 a month themselves. They could even go the radical route and insist that the guy they’re doing spring for the condoms (which are passed out like candy at Planned Parenthood anyway).

Obamacare isn’t about freedom of choice -- it limits choice. It says one size fits all, and if you think it doesn’t, then boo-hoo for you. It will drive up the cost of health care to the point where institutions and businesses will no longer be able to afford to offer it. How’s that for hope and change?

Franciscan University is just the tip of the iceberg. We’re going to see more and more entities opting out of coverage, either for moral or religious reasons, or because they simply can’t afford it. Silly doctors, wanting to be paid for their services and all.

Barack Obama’s Julia might have a great life where Big Daddy Government takes care of her from womb to tomb, but that’s not reality. The reality of Obamacare is that it’s not affordable, it’s unsustainable, and it ultimately limits free choice. That is not moving forward.

I believe this is Obama's goal - to have the vast majority of the population on a government health plan. The fines that are levied to a company for NOT offering health insurance to it's employees are less that the cost of private insurance premiums. Obamacare, by design, moves to heard all Americans to a national version of Medicaid.

I applaud this university for doing what they did based on their morals and beliefs. Sadly, we'll be seeing a lot more of it done for financial reasons only.

The school is not saying their students cannot be on bc.

The school is saying they won'y pay for it or provide it.

We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!

I don't care for Obama's policies, or Clooney's smug superiority complex, but c'mon, poor taste.

Oh come on work4mickey, how many millions has Clooney given to / raised for obama? I thought it was funny. Besides, I'm sure its nothing compared to what we will see in the coming months.

Janette did you know that Obamacare mandates ALL individual insurance plans to cover maternity now? You should call your provider. I previously could not afford the ridiculously pricey maternity coverage- which sucks because as a 29 year old female in a committed relationship it's a highly probable outcome. Our first child and my maternity were covered by Medicaid, while daddy paid for his own insurance. Now, thanks to the Affordable Care Act we are all 3 paying entirely for our health insurance because my coverage makes sense and I can afford it.

The days before Obama were so much simpler. I remember looking for insurance in kitchener was a lot easier a few years ago. Things are a lot harder and people tend to overreact a lot more too.

I agree that it was easier to find insurance in Kitchener a few years ago ( http://www.preceptgroup.ca/en/ ). I really want to read more about this new health care and how it affects every aspect of a person's life. What are the students going to do now that aren't provided health care by the university?

I dont even get how a university like this can deny insurance kitchener. I mean if they are catholic and believe the bible, why dont they want everyone to be healthy?
