Mary Richardson Kennedy's Suicide Makes a Legacy of Loss Even More Tragic (VIDEO)

by Jacqueline Burt on May 16, 2012 at 10:01 PM

mary richardson kennedyYet another Kennedy has died tragically and too soon: Mary Richardson Kennedy, the 52-year-old estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was found dead of an apparent suicide today in her Mt. Kisco NY home. According to law enforcement officials, she hanged herself in an "out building" (most likely some type of barn) on the Kennedy property. Richardson Kennedy, a former architectural designer, leaves behind 4 children, Connor, Kyra, William and Aiden.

The Kennedy family is no stranger to loss, particularly loss of a violent and sudden nature. But with the passing of each individual life comes the same wave of raw, heart-wrenching pain, which is reflected in the words of Mary Richardson Kennedy's nearest and dearest. Through a lawyer, her family released this statement:

"We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation."

Said former sister-in-law Kerry Kennedy:

"She's my best friend. Our whole family is devastated by the loss and we appreciate everyone’s prayers.”

And even as Mary's troubled recent past is recalled (after splitting with RFK Jr., she was arrested twice on drug and alcohol-related charges), the people who loved her choose to remember better times.

One neighbor called her "at all times just a lovely individual." Another spoke of her as "community oriented" and "always kind."

So sad that such a kind, beautiful, talented woman's life should be so filled with anguish that she would be compelled to end it.

May she rest in peace.

Were you shocked to learn of Mary Richardson' Kennedy's suicide?

What is it with the Kennedy family?  It is like they are cursed.  What is it that haunts this family?

Until it is official, I am not ready to comment on the alleged suicide.  You never know with the Kennedy clan.

Let's see, he married her 3 weeks after the divorce from his first wife was final, and he's dating Cheryl Hines now, soooo... should history repeating itself be a surprise??

As for curses and conspiracy theories, like the Kennedys, those that live large in the pubic eye tend to die large in the pubic eye. The problem, is the Kennedys take people out with them...

Suicide should not be a forbidden subject, it leads to cover ups. Judas is the perfect example of it, being condemned over money, his wages for sin.

The curse is not with the Kennedys, it's with the people who marry them. RFK Jr married this woman - his sister's friend - when she was 8 months pregnant, a mere 3 weeks after a quickie divorce from his first wife of 12 years. He's already moved on to victim #3.

I feel bad for those kids, they didn't mean enough to her. Suicide is terrible and being linked to the Kennedy's is terrible.
