President Obama has been making the rounds to various talk shows, getting the ball rolling for the 2012 election, and today he appeared on The View today for the fourth time (second as prez). Although Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Joy Behar asked a series of serious questions regarding family and the government, they also decided to test his Hollywood IQ ... Toward the end of his segment, Behar said, "Now, we know you know a lot about politics, you know about the law. But do you know about pop culture?" In response, Obama invited her to "fire away!"
Not that how much Obama knows about RPatz or reality TV should actually matter, but I guess the writers thought it would be humorous to see just how much entertainment news our POTUS absorbs -- including whether or not he could name that erotica novel American ladies are devouring. So how did he fare?
But first, Behar's exact Q, which would surely make anyone turn beet red upon asking the President of the United States:
Okay, this one you may not know. I'm hoping that you don't, as a matter of fact ... What's the controversial sex book that's on millions of women's bedside tables?
Obama's response? "I don't know that." Thank goodness! Seems like the audience equally as relieved as they were amused by his response. Behar neglected to fill him in on the details of Fifty Shades of Grey, so he remarked, "I'll ask Michelle when I get home what’s going on." Haa ... Can you imagine that conversation?
Although he's not as well-versed on popular erotica, he does know about that chick who made a sex tape ... Behar also asked him, "Which Kardashian was married for only 72 days?" and right away he replied, "That would be Kim," explaining that he only knows because Kris Humphries "was a ball player" and he watches basketball.
He also admitted to having seen The Avengers, was able to name three superheroes: Hulk, Captain America and Ironman, and knew Sherri had been on Dancing with the Stars. But as for Jessica Simpson having just given birth? Nah, no clue! Funny, because weren't her preggers photos everywhere? Then again, we can't expect the President of the United States to be reading Us Weekly and tuning into E! News. So major props to him for the pop culture knowledge he did know, and thank goodness it's not his main area of expertise!
Here are some other highlights from the president's appearance:
Are you surprised by Obama's pop culture knowledge?
